How Is "Fodor's" Pronounced?
I've been asked recently and wondered myself how "Fodor's" is actually spoken. Is it: Fa-doors, Pho-doors, Fodders.....
Inquiring minds want to know....please and thank you!!!

I'm sorry LoveItaly....just like most things in this world, don't you think it is wise to get additional opinions and confirmation on information we seek? Didn't I notice earlier today that you advised others to be prepared; to carry additional ATM cards/bank cards while traveling? I'm only trying to get it right and didn't mean to condesend. Please be kind....I know you're a regular here and post often. I enjoy reading your posts all the time!! I meant no disrespect to forgeddabouit. I'm sorry if my response offended you this morning)

I just saw my smilely face and simply meant to offer a smile. I'm not a mean-spirited or remotely sarcastic person what-so-ever! I actually don't care for sarcasm or cynisism at all.....it stings!

Hi Phoebe, after posting if you hit the "preview my reply button" you will see your post and if you don't like it than hit the "edit" button and you can change the face or the wording.
Welcome to Fodors!! And I am kind of laughing because fehgeddaboudit does describe how to say Fodors - it is F + odors. That is strange, is it not? But true. Also, in case you are not aware Phoebe, the time shown on Fodors is US eastern time. So for example your last post showing 3:35am is only 12:35am Pacific Time. Take care.

How to make friends, influence people, and convince people you are really open minded (keep those white sheets in the trunk, please):
End all your responses with the words, "case closed."
Ask in a very smirky little Stepford Wife voice, "what more do you need?"

Is this confirmation enough for you -- Fodors' own "About us" page where they say it rhymes with "motors" (because they don't want to say "odors"):

I couldn't believe Fodors actually says their name rhymes with motors. The d is pronounced as a t? How stupid. They are the ones are are clearly wrong. Some people may talk about "modors" in cars, but if so, they are pronouncing it wrong.
While we're talking about "winning friends" I think the real insult is to suggest to someone who has given a clear and definitive answer that you don't believe them and you want someone else to answer it. If fehgeddaboudit had said, "I think it is. . ." that might be different. But what is the point of asking a question if you aren't going to believe the answer? This isn't like giving an opinion on how good a restaurant is or where the best place to visit in a city is, this is a simple question.

And now I realize maybe I should retract part of my statement. I suppose it is possible to say that "Fodors" RHYMES with "motors", it is simply wrong to say it is pronounced the same. I guess to rhyme only the last sound needs to match, not the middle consonant.

Patrick you've misunderstood my intentions---you, like so many others on this board are one of my most favorite posters!! I truly value and enjoy so many of the opinions and perspectives you bring to this site .Thank you for that!
I did not mean to insult forgeddaboutit in any manner. I thanked him/her for his/her expeditious response to my question. I foolishly didn't think to read-before-I-wrote, the "About Fodors" section of the site.
I just thought it would be ok to secure confirmation on this topic with other posters opinions. I apparently failed to convey my intentions with out insult. I'm sorry and will be more considerate in the future.
I'm a novice poster here at Fodor's and a long time fan of you and so many others on this board; I'm an enthusiatic viewer and traveler.
Cheers with an apology to anyone that I have offended. I'll bugger off for now and return to travel topics only.
Have a nice day everyone
Phoebe

Pheobe,
I would think the definitive confirmation of the answer you have been given here would be to call F Odors and listen to the way they answer the phone. They should know.
Actually, if you put your question into the Search box, you will see that your question is asked on a regular basis, that might also confirm fehgeddaboudits answer.
Just in case you need many many additional opinions LOL (laugh out loud)
Love, Ms Valentine has been posting since 2004, she is pretty much a regular here also, one would think

Like the others I've always heard it pronounced F+odors, but a call to their offices this morning shot us down.
It's a local call for me. When they answer their phone, it's clear that that the company name is pronounced
'Ran-dom House'.

I think this is a discussion best left for GTG's. Aside from those, I can think of few instances where the word might actually come up in conversation. And in those cases, the one speaking it would probably be the "authority", and not questioned.
