I live on the North End in Cherry Grove. The schools opened this am,but a message within the last 2 hours due to the smoke they are asking parents to pick up children at 10:30am and others are being transported to Loris. There was ash and debris on my deck this am and my house smelled of smoke. The sun is now coming out through the smoke. Yesterday the wind was so strong that it caused the fire to spread. Wind has died down so hopefully the fire will be under control soon.
Shelter are opened at The Aquatic Center and House of Blues for people without homes. parts of 31 and 22 were closed this am. 90 has been reopened.
Go Travel has given you the facts of what the numbers are at this time.

Stay safe MaryAnne.

We are just getting the smoke on my end (Murrells Inlet). I got an email from my girlfriend who is the manager of the Marina Inn and part of Grand Dunes is also on fire.

Barefoot Golf Resort is not open and the fire has already claimed on the houses on the course.

The Grand Dunes courses ARE open for play.

In the city limits of NMB, the fire is 75% contained however that is not the case where the majority of the fire is located in Horry County.

Thanks, GoTravel, for the updates. It's raining again tonight in Atlanta. Hopefully this weather front will head towards Horry County.

GoT - do you know if the area up in Little River is affected by this? I have good friends in River Hills and haven't been able to reach them.

Thanks for keeping everyone abreast.

Any updates are much appreciated, I'm sure this is now 'old news' here in CLT.

While it is a terrible thing to happen to anyone, I'm glad to learn your place is OK, Gotravel. I missed it if it's been determined how it got started? Do they suspect arson?

It was a fire set to burn leaves (Live Oaks shed their leaves in the Spring) and yard clippings that wasn't ever contained.

How sad. But, I'm glad to learn there was no evil intent.

GoTravel--thanks so much for all the updates. We are going there 5/16, staying at Crescent Shores in Crescent Beach. Do you know how that area has been affected.

My heart goes out to all this is affecting!
