Houston in September
Hi
I have the opportunity to go to Houston the weekend of sept 26 to see a baseball game. I would really like to see a rodeo.. Are there any during that time frame. I know the big one is in the spring. There is also the Kennedy space center. Any other ideas. It is only for the weekend. It is only me and my husband
Thanks

According to the Cowboys Professional Rodeo Association website, there are two rodeos that weekend in the vicinity of Houston (i.e. within a 90 minute drive of Houston.) These are the San Jacinto County Fair and Rodeo in Coldspring and the Colorado County Fair and Rodeo in Columbus. I have not been to either rodeo, but you can check their websites to see if they might be of interest to you.

For suggestions on other activities, it would help to know your interests--theatre, museums, nature, beaches, etc.
Also, in case you are researching--the Johnson Space Center is in Houston; the Kennedy Space Center is in Florida.

If you go to Galveston beach, be sure to stop for a meal in Kemah freshest seafood on the planet the red snapper is best and pulled right out of the ocean just to be prepared for you. the restaurant is very simple, consisting of benches and picnic type tables, but very tasty food....that is if you like seafood. Houston also has some of the best cuisine, but pricey restaurants, Annie's, Tony's (may have changed names by now), Landry's also a good choice. Most good restaurants are in the Westheimer, Post Oak area.
Also all summer long (hopefully still in Sep), free concerts in the downtown park, many times featuring well-known artists. Enjoy

Huge overgeneralisation. Houston is enormous - the physical city is more than twice the size of NYC. There are tons of areas and tons of restaurants. Go googling, check out Texas Monthly and the Houston Press (the alt-weekly).

Locomotor, sounds like you haven't been to Houston in a long while. Kemah is nothing like you describe, and "Annie's" (do you mean Café Annie?) closed long ago. "Most good restaurants" are NOT just in the Post Oak area--they're all over, and the vast majority of them are NOT pricey.
And mrb2040, if you are looking for current Houston and vicinity recommendations, please let us know what area of town you'll be staying in. Lots and lots of good places to eat!

the only rodeo I ever attended was the livestock in Feb. so guess I better quit commenting on old stuff....sorry, but enjoy it is a bustling city.

The Kemah Boardwalk is a lot of fun - lots of restaurants, and you can sit outside by the water. It's right near the NASA area. If you like to shop, check out The Galleria. There's a great theater district with the Wortham, Jones Hall, etc. Houston Symphony and The Museum of Fine Arts are popular too. If you make it to Galveston, there are beautiful old homes you can tour, and Moody Gardens is great with a rainforest pyramid, aquarium, etc. Houston does have fantastic food, and just about any kind you'd like. Bayou Bend is another beautiful spot. Are you going to see the Astros? They have a pretty neat stadium with a train that runs around the top if they get a homerun.
