Hotels within walking distance of Universal-Orlando?!!

Can anybody recommend a hotel that is within walking distance of Universal Studios,Orlando? The closest I've seen is 1/2 mile.Any hotel closer that I don't have to cross a 6 lane highway? Thanks.

The Hard Rock Hotel is the hotel that anchors Universal Studios. It'll cost you in dollars what you gain in convenience, but it's getting rave reviews.

And what about the new Loew's Portofino Hotel on the grounds (I believe) that actually looks like the entire village of Portofino. Normally expensive, but with bargains around these days, who knows?

Debbie- am not sure why you want to walk? Is it to save on parking fees? It would be very dangerouse in my opinion to walk to Universal from any hotels other than Hard Rock and Portofino Bay. These two are on property, but they will set you back far more than staying off property and paying the $7 parking fee. I have stayed at the Sheraton two times. It is the giant circlar tower hotel. At night they have lights down the sides that change colors. The whole motif is early hollywood. This is definitely one of the closest off property hotels. I think it would be too risky walking however. Another thing to keep in mind is that after 6/7 (don't remember which) parking is free to the Universal parks and Citywalk.

the radisson twin towers is directly across from the main entrance, and there are pedestrian signals to help you across the traffic.

The Radisson Twin Towers, Holiday Inn, and Delta Resort are all across the street from Universal and I'm sure they all have shuttles. But even after you're on the grounds, you have another quarter to half a mile to walk.

I think most of the Disney resorts provide transportation to the theme parks. I would check websites and see which ones provide transportation. The parking lot is big....even being across the street will be a long walk (especially at the end of the day or in rain).

Personally, I would avoid the Delta Orlando Resort. We were there in April. Run down, grungy, and the smell of garbage when you sat by the pool, where there were always empty cups from the pool bar and dirty towels that didn't get picked up until the end of the day. Don't be fooled by their website which makes it look like a great resort right across the street! Keep in mind, for the extra $$$ at Hard Rock, you get to bypass the lines on all rides. I would do that next time.

Debbie,
You will LOVE the Hard Rock Hotel. It's just a short walk to the parks from there. Go out the gate by the slide at the pool. If you want a LOT of info on the Hard Rock and the parks, go to www.disboards.com
