Hotels in Minneapolis for University visit
Visiting University of Minnesota Business School and need a place to stay. Considering Marquette Hilton and Hotel Minneapolis Autograph (a Marriott). Any thoughts pros or cons of either? Want to see city sights and spend some time to let my teen have a great overview of a prospective school. Any other suggestions to sell the city and the university to us? Are these hotels within walking distance of University? Would like hotel that has 2 queen beds as there will be four of us. Thanks!

Hi, we stayed at the Westin in Downtown Minneapolis and loved it. They had a real good deal at the time, celebrate your birth year. We stayed 3 nights and paid my birth year for the last 2 nights. If you were born in 1970, you paid $70 for the last 2 nights. The older you are the cheaper the rate.
Below is the link of a review I did at the time.

I always stayed at the Radisson, which is practically on campus, and very nice. When my husband would go alone to take or pick up our son, he stayed at the Golden Gopher motel, but it was too dumpy for me.

Those hotels (downtown Minneapolis) are not within walking distance to the U of M. You would need to drive, take the bus, rent a bike (http://www.niceridemn.org) or the light rail can get you pretty close.
Along with checking out downtown, be sure to see the Uptown area and lakes (Calhoun, Harriet, Lake of the Isles), NE Minneapolis and the Dinkytown and Stadium Village areas on campus. There are some nice areas around the Mississippi and we have some great theatres and museums as well.
I went to Carlson and thought it was great!

Stay at "The Commons". Great hotel on train line and middle of U of M. Train can take you downtown for cheap and only minutes away. They have a free Van (just a tip) and will take you to any nearby location. They took us to Twins game and picked us up at a restaurant later. Rates are between $110-180 depending on availability. Parking right outside for cheap. Great upscale restaurant (The Beacon) and Starbucks in Lobby. Make reservations early if Gopher game going on, as they are only a block away. Also many local places to eat nearby. Employees are great. I would never stay at Hotel Minneapolis, Marriot Autograph collection, bad experiences and reviews.
