Hotel/Inn Chattanooga area

Going to Florida soon for the rest of the winter. We need a place to sleep the first night on the road. Last year we did Atlana and had a lot of fun. Stayed there for 2 days. We wanted Chattanooga this year but other than the Delta Queen ( which does not have TV so is a deal breaker) I can't find what we want. This is what we would like. A nice place to sleep in a area where we can have a nice dinner and a nice walk, turn in early, watch the news and get ready for an early morning departure. Any ideas?

There's a Double Tree and Courtyard Hotel downtown by the river. You can take the Market Street Bridge and walk across the river. Have dinner at Big River or Blue Water.

The Read House is downtown and it's a very nice hotel. Porter's Steakhouse in the hotel is excellent.

Thank you Littleman. I will check out the Courtyard. We've stayed at the Read House and Porter's is a very good restaurant but it was dark by the time we arrived and no place to walk, it was a little deserted and a little scary.

There's a real nice Hilton Garden Inn there also. Take Market Street and walk across the pedestrial bridge to the park on the other side and back. Have a safe trip.

Hilton Garden Inn @ 311 Chestnut Street, Chattanooga, TN 423 - 308 - 9000.

Walk across the pedestrian bridge at Walnut Street to Coolidge Park on the other side of the river and back. I think you can walk across the Market Street bridge also but the Walnut Street bridge is for pedestrian's only. It's 4 blocks N of Hilton Gardenn Inn on Chestnut. Nice walk. Sorry about the spelling.

Well, I'm going to take you in a different direction - up the mountain.

I strongly recommend http://stayatchanticleer.com/ on Lookout Mountain. Lovely place - it's one of my very favorites.

Take a mintute to read this article from Southern Living about the renovation of the old motor court into a fine inn - and a quick visit to Rock City.
http://www.southernliving.com/travel...561/page2.html

The area is perfect for strolling around. You're walking along streets with Fairyland names - Peter Pan Rd, Wendy Trail, Aladdin, and Cinderella too. Fairyland Elem is there too. Rock City is kitschy but fun and the view from Lookout Mountain is legendary. The last time we were there the hosts sent us to a small family owned Italian restaurant that was great. I don't remember the name. (My cousin grew up around the corner and DF on the ridge). Roscoe Tanner honed his serve on the country club courts. The next morning you have to go off the mountain but they can tell you the back way - which will take you through Chickamauga Battlefield. It's a lovely drive and if you've not been there and you like history you may want to stop and stroll for a few minutes.

Have I said I LOVE the Chanticleer?

Another alternative to the river area is to head up just a little bit to the bluffs and the arts district -

The Bluff View Inn is nice and the area is good for strolling too.

Safe travels back "home".

Well, I was curious and tried to find that restaurant. It must have a new name. The reviews online are great -

Thank you Starrs and Littleman! Starrs, the Chanticleer looks lovely! Actually, we would not be arriving until around 6pm and leaving very early so would not be able to enjoy what is offered. I did call thinking perhaps we could extend our time there. They were very helpful and friendly but because of the time of year most everything closes at 5pm and the Incline is closed for the season already so it would not be a good time for us to stay. For an overnight, she recommended the Hilton Garden that you recommended Littleman so I think we will aim for that.

Yep, going back "home"
