Hotel suggestion for weekend getaway to Annapolis
Planning a weekend getaway with my hubbie. Looking for hotel suggestion. Waterfront would be nice but it looks like the Marriot is the only waterfront hotel. We like historic Inns but only do B&B's with private baths. All suggestions appreciated. Thanks, Terric

If I were you I would seriously consider a B and B. Annapolis is all about old school, staying in a colonial home is the way to stay in annapolis. Most of them are historic and although you may not get a bay view, it is well worth. Just my opinion.

I don't have a recommendation on where to stay, but I have stayed at the Historic Inns of Annapolis and was extremely disappointed in both the room and the service. We also prefer B&Bs and inns, but I cannot recommend this group of inns.

Waterfront in Annapolis is a tough one, and I don't think the Marriott is particularly special, though the location is superb.
But here are a few alternative thoughts:
Consider staying waterfront in another locale (lots of great waterfront lodgings in Baltimore, for example, or some of the towns on the Eastern Shore such as Cambridge or St. Michael's), and then doing one or more daytrips to Annapolis.
Alternatively, how about a yacht charter for a couple of nights in Annapolis? Crewed or bareboat, you can't get much closer to the water, and it's a heck of a way to see "America's Sailing Capital."

Historic Inns of Annapolis has several properties within a block of the State House, a 5-minute walk to the harbor. One of them, the Governor Calvert House, has modern hotel rooms in a new wing built onto the back of an 18th century mansion.
