hotel question for D.C.

Thanks to all who have given me great ideas for how to spend my second evening in DC while there for the job interview. My other question is this- I have an interview on K St. NW. at 1 PM. I'll have a car, but hate (understatement) driving in cities that I'm not familiar with. I don't mind driving to the city, but once I get there, my opinion changes completely. Anyways, I'll be there 2 nights, want to keep my car parked, don't want to be without good and quick access to the city, but want to do this as inexpensively as I can, while still being in a safe area. (If I get the job, my budget won't be so tight for future trips....) Any advice will be appreciated.

What is your question? Where should you look for a hotel?

Try downtown if that is where your meeting will be. If you can't find anything in your budget (which you can tell us if you like), maybe Crystal City, across the river in Virginia would be good.

Nobody here is going to recommend any place that is not safe.

Yes, I'd like to know where to look or the name of one. I'd like to be under $100 a night with taxes included, if that's possible.

I would check orbitz and priceline to get an idea of the price ranges in the different areas of metro DC.

If you see something in your price range, you could check the hotel's website to see if the price is the same and book directly with them.

Prices depend on the time of year, which I don't think you mentioned. Hotel Helix often has good specials.

Time of year is this week, believe it or not. I was just contacted for the interview.

On short notice, I'd try lowballing Priceline for any of the in-town zones (Dupont, White House, Convention Center). K Street downtown is served by all the Metro lines and a dozen bus routes.

Parking can be an additional $25-35, so look for specials that include it. Free parking is a better bonus than free breakfast (unless you are a family).

If budget forces you to the suburbs, start with Rosslyn or Crystal City -- they are closest to DC and have quick metro access.

Priceline plus $25 for parking is probably better than any other deal with free parking. Bidingfortravel is showing in-town 3.5* and 4* hotels won recently for $60-80.
