Hotel on Times Square, NYC

Hello New Yorkers,

Next year on the new year eve my wife and I would like to stay at a Times Square hotel and witness the descending of that famous apple/ball from the room widow. Which hotel offers the best view of that? Our budget is flexible.

Thanks.

The Marriott Marquis. Reserve right now for next year and you may be in luck. You want a room on a high floor facing 1 Times Square (where the ball drops); I believe that would be the south side of the Marriott, but ask when you make a reservation.

If you don't want to stay at the Marriott, they have a restaurant on the top floor which revolves for good views all around. Food is OK, but you are paying for the view anyway. They probably offer a New Years package.

Thank you. Is Mariott Marquis the only hotel that offers the view of the ball drop?

Thanks again.

I've stayed at the Marquis a lot and on all sides, but I'm not sure I've ever had a room where you would be albe to see the ball drop.
The Renaissance is the one that actually faces it dead on I believe.

The Renaissance New York at Times Square may also have views, but as I have not been in any of the rooms, I can't say for sure. They are at the opposite end from 1 Times Square. The Marriott is in the middle on the east side. To see the entire drop, you need an unimpeded view down to the south end of Times Square. Both hotels are operated by Marriott, so if you have points, you may be able to use them.

For an excellent map of Times Square showing all hotels and other places, go to "timessquarebid.org.map"

Millennium Broadway also has great views of the ball drop. I've stayed at the Renaissance many times and never had a room which faced Times Square - both sides face east and west, not south.
