Hotel near Springfield, MA Symphony Hall?

Looking for a hotel and/or restaurants in walking distance to the Springfield Symphony.
Is that a safe area to walk at night?
Thanks for suggestions.

Its not a great area of Springfield. I would stay at 1 of the hotels near the Basketball Hall of Fame and cab it back / forth. This area was right where the tornado came off of the CT River June 1 and is still mot doing great.

Looks walkable from the Sheraton to Symphony Hall. Is it a safe walking area?

Here's my take on this. I assume you'll be going between Symphony Hall and the Sheraton when other people are attending the concert, so other concert-goers will be entering before and leaving after. If this is true, I'd say you're probably okay. I'm not so sure I'd stray into side streets alone, though, especially at night. Regardless, it's probably a good idea to keep your wits about you. Main Street will likely have the most foot and car traffic, which will be a good thing.

I welcome differing opinions that are more heavily informed that me on this subject, though.

Thanks to both of you for your comments. I did not mean to belabor the point - just seemed too short a distance to take the car, find parking, etc. for about a .2 mile walk. Although I am from New England, I have not spent any time in Springfield, and I know it has been hard hit by the weather.
