hotel near Disney

We are going to Disneyland in April and have been overwhelmed with the hotel choices. We would like to stay at a relatively nice place with a nice pool area and pay between $100 and $200 per night. Unfortunately all the Disney hotels are more than this. Most promising choices seem to be: Anaheim Marriott, Crowne Plaza, Anabella, Residence Inn by Marriott, Hilton Anaheim, Sheraton Park. Any opinions? Thank you

There are SO MANY hotels in the Orlando area, that you should not have a problem finding the right location. I'd also suggest checking with a local travel agency, because you can get package deals, of hotel, Disney Tickets and car rental and get a really nice hotel very reasonably priced.

Try www.libertytravel.com, www.hotels.com and priceline for ideas.

Also try the Disney boards, www.mousesavers.net (I think). There are a few Disney sites, and I'm sure others here will add them.

Have a GREAT time, I love Disney, and have been several times.

to needsomesome.

Scott is going to DisneyLAND in Anaheim, California, not Orlando............

Or at least that's the way it seems from the hotels he lists.

Anaheim Marriot, Hilton Anaheim, etc.

I like the Hilton Anaheim on Convention Way because it has a sandwich/ice cream place as well as the regular restaurants. Last time I was there the breakfast and lunch buffets were huge and popular. I did not use the pool. I was attending a convention. When I had dinner with friends who were staying at a Disney hotel I was struck by the amount of young children having late dinners. We did not have dinner reservations which was a big mistake. I got the impression of a lot of noise and a lot of children who were up too late. If there is a convention going on, there will be a large number of adults at the hotels located on convention way. You might prefer more adults/more quiet. I thought restaurants in the Hilton were more expensive than average. For the past couple of conventions I chose what is now the Radisson. I liked the good basic breakfast available in the sunny restaurant but didn't care for their dinner restaurant. You might find eating at the hotels on Convention Way to be more expensive than you want to spend and less kid friendly. You could walk to some family restaurants. If you want to keep your food budget reasonable you might be better off at a hotel closer to the family restaurants. If you don't have children with you I think you would be much happier at a hotel on Convention Way. On our first trip to Anaheim we stayed at the Candy Cane. It's a small property and at the time only had a continental breakfast but I thought the pool was very attractive and, again, much quieter than at the Disney hotels. After walking around Disneyland all day you might want to stay some place that has its own restaurants and room service. One of the Anaheim Marriott's restaurants is a Starbucks which has sandwiches and salads. It's across the street from the Hilton.

dfrostnh--I had heard some nice things about the Candy Cane Inn but had sort of written it off as a cheap, lesser quality place (like the Jolly Roger where I used to love staying when I was 16!). If it has a nice pool and is clean and comfortable, that might be where we end up. We are bringing our 1 year old daughter, so kid-friendly is important. We want more than just a room to collapse in at night, though, we'll probably spend quite a bit of time relaxing at the hotel.
Thanks!

My husband and I are Annual Passholders at Disneyland - go there frequently and have stayed at both Disneyland Hotel and the Grand Californian, both on property. The Grand Californian is the best hotel in Anaheim to stay at - beautiful lobby, comfortable rooms, nice grounds, right in the middle of the resort (between Downtown Disney and Disney's California Adventure). I would highly recommend staying there if you can swing the cost. We have also stayed at the Marriott Suites on Harbor Blvd in Garden Grove (which is adjacent to Anaheim) was very nice and is fairly new...clean and provides a shuttle to Disneyland - it is quite close - we could watch the fireworks from the our hotel room. But, I think you would have the best experience at the Grand Californian!

scottibb, the Candy Cane might be too basic for you. With a 1 year old you might prefer more amenities like room service! I think it really depends on how much excitement you want. For me, lots of kids and families running around at 9pm at Disney hotels was not my idea of fun. They were having fun, though! OTH I'm an early riser so I like a place that has breakfast available by 6am. You might make a choice based on the restaurants in each hotel or next door plus how nice the pool is. Hope you have a great vacation.
