Hotel Majestic - San Francisco

Thinking about staying here due to proximity to areas we want to be and PRICE for the amount of space we can get (junior suites for 3 nights at average $144 including tax).

Can anyone familiar with the area tell me if it's a dangerous area? I'm from Seattle and live in one of the most dense areas (Capitol Hill) so big city doesn't scare me just a scary neighborhood I'm not used too.

Address is: http://www.thehotelmajestic.com/direction.php
1500 Sutter Street

No not dangerous, it borders JapanTown and Fillmore and not a bad walk to Pacific Heights. Good public transportation. Musty old hotel that is supposedly redoing carpets now, which should help.
No air conditioning which could occasionally end up being a problem, not sure if you're going in July or August?

We're going over Easter weekend so no A/C should be fine. Thanks for your input.

Nice area - Lower Pacific Heights. Not dangerous. The Queen Anne Hotel is on the same block. Baker & Banker Restaurant is close. The SF City Guides walk "Victorian San Francisco" starts 1 1/2 blocks away.

My wife is one of the volunteer guides on this tour.

I will defer to those who still live in The City - but years ago - that was no picnic area.

Actually - my bad - I was thinking this was a couple blocks further toward/about at Turk Street.

Should be ok.

Fine area, as others have said, near Japantown and interesting restaurants and shops. Easy bus to downtown i f you're going to Union Sq for shopping.
