hotel in central manhattan for less than $200 per night

the advice on my previous post is to stay overnight. Is there a good hotel, well located for under $200 per night?

It would have been helpful to post on your other thread (I don't know how many you are) but if you're just 1 or 2, the Millenium Broadway can be booked for $189 plus tax or $220 total for a king or 2 single beds. Put in the discount code zoo for this rate. http://www.millenniumhotels.com/millenniumnewyork/

I now see you'll have 3 children with you so no, no way to get a room for 4 or worse 5 for under $200 for that particular night in Manhattan. I'm sure you realize most hotels can't accomodate 5 to one room. You'd need a suite hotel with 2 double beds and a sofabed and you won't likely find that for next Sun. for anywhere around $200.

In Manhattan it is illegal to put more than 4 people in a hotel room due to fire laws - so you will have to get a suite.
Fingind anything for $200 it going to be incredibly difficult if not impossible.

You might have a look at the Beacon hotel to see if they have naything - or try one of the suite hotels downtown in the ifnancial district - which would be less crowded on a weekend,

I would recommend looking at hotwire.com. Last March I took a trip to NYC on a tight budget and was able to get a hotel at a great price in midtown. It ended up being a Holiday Inn, large room size, and in a great location. I don't know if you've used hotwire before, but the catch is that you don't know the specific hotel you will be staying. However, you do know the general location (such as Midtown East or West), and you know the rating of the hotel. If you are wanting a decent hotel at a good price, this is the best way to go. I've used the site twice and got Holiday Inns both times and I was happy with what I got.

Hotwire works for 4 people (2 beds), but not for 5 -- not sure how many are in the party.

I just checked Hotwire, plugging in 1 adult and 3 children for this Sunday night, and there are a couple of choices close (maybe a smidge over when you add taxes) in your price range. 3-1/2* $199 Midtown East. Looking at Better Bidding, the Midtown East hotel is likely the Roosevelt or the Tudor.

Look here:

http://www.eurocheapo.com/newyork/hotels/all.html

You WILL need two rooms - which will put you slightly over $200 a night for the family.

Come back with some ideas from the site above for more feedback.

Best luck - you can do it!

No, not possible on this date. Sorry. You may be able to bid on 2 rooms on Priceline and get under $300, but even that is a stretch at this time of the year. What you have going for you is that this is a Sunday night, and that's typically the lowest occupancy night of the week.

I just read an article on USAToday.com about someone getting a $125 per night hotel on Priceline for Friday night here in Manhattan. This was the Marriott Financial Center (way downtown), but it's a good hotel, if a little remote. If someone can do that so soon after Thanksgiving, I think you have a chance to get two rooms for a similar price (but you do HAVE to book 2 rooms because 1 will absolutely not work for you in Manahttan). But it's going to cost you at least $250 not $200.

FYI: Technically, Priceline only works for 2 people, not three in a room, but a smaller child should not be a problem. Virtually every hotel in Manhattan will allow a child to stay with two adults in a room with one double bed, especially the chains that typically show up on Priceline.

For this weekend, Priceline would be a mistake imo for a family of FIVE. Should they get a win, many hotels may not be able to accomodate a request for that many people in a room. The hostels listed on the link posted by gtonia are mostly dreadful and/or ILLEGAL.

If you're still out there and reading this ita, I'd try PHONING the Salisbury hotel. They have a price of $149 on hotels.com for this Sunday for a room with 2 double beds and a price of $279 for a bigger room. You might be able to get a deal on a decent sized room and the location is excellent for your purposes.

Are there four or five of you?

Regardless, I'm wondering if it would be really worthwhile to spend the night. You'll have to pack for that, then probably want to drop your bags at the hotel before heading out for the day.

It gets dark really early, so you could see a lot of the city at night before heading home on the bus.

I am also a little confused if there are 4 or 5 of you? If there are four and three of them are small children, then some hotels will take that reservation. I looked on a couple different sites and about the best I saw was the Hampton Inn/Empire State Bldg for 2 double beds with a rate of $239 with tax coming to $275. I specially put in 1 adult and 3 children. The room will be pretty small for the 4 of you but the kids are young and it's just one night. If you make the reservation, make sure to put in the Hampton Inn/Empire State Bldg. There were a couple others that were slightly lower but not as good an area IMO.

For $16 more you can get a one bedroom suite at Eastgate Tower. There is one bed in the bedroom and a sofa bed in the living room. It's in a nice area. Room was $249 and with tax $291. They also have a one bedroom suite with 2 beds in the bedroom but that is more. I am going to be in NYC the weekend after you. I am staying with friends but some other friends of mine are staying at the Eastgate. Eastgate is part of the Affinia group. http://www.affinia.com/New-York-City...Eastgate-Tower

There is also the Belleclaire Hotel in the Upper West Side. Gets decent reviews on tripadvisor. My friend I am staying with lives in this area and it's a great neighborhood. They have a room with two doubles and private bath for $239 plus tax and a 2 bedroom suite for $289. www.hotelbelleclaire.com

So that gives you a couple of options for hotels in the $200-250 range plus tax.

Your grandkids are so lucky to have a grandma like you. The first time I made it to NYC was when I was in college.

I have picked the Hampton Inn, Madison Square Garden (the other one was not available for 5 people) over the Radio City Apartments. The reason is that the Radio City will not guarantee non smoking. Our bus home departs from Madison Square Garden.

Have I made a good choice? Please answer quickly before I have to cancel my reservation.

It's a fine choice especially considering the severe budget limitations you stated. It's close to Herald Sqare and the many subway lines there. Plenty of places to eat nearby. IT's safe, convenient. Go for it.

Excellent choice. Hampton Inn offers free breakfast and is my favorite moderate chain. Easy access from that location via subway too. Inexpensive places to eat nearby. I was going to recommend the LaQuinta in the same general area, but I'd pick the Hampton over the LQ. Enjoy your trip!
