Hotel for handicapped/Las Vegas
I have some friends who are planning a trip to LV late April. One of the parties has M.S., & has some trouble walking. (NO wheelchair.) They are looking for a hotel on the strip that requires the least amount of walking to get in & out. I think that they are all so big, & to get in or out you always have to go through the casino (for obvious reasons), and that makes it the wrong destination for them. Any ideas?
Thank you.
Thank you.

All hotels require you to walk through the casino to get to the elevators.
The best would be to find the hotel with the least amount of casino to go through.
I would think the newer hotels would be better equipped, the Bellagio, Paris, Mandalay Bay.
If walking is a problem for this lady, she is going to have problems in all aspects of Las Vegas. To get to another hotel, to get to a restaurant, all require a good amount of walking.

The Barbary Coast is very small and the elevator is convenient to the coffee shop and casino. We have friends who are handicapped and they always stay at the Barbary Coast. Also, all the Strip hotels will provide a wheel chair for a guest's use free of charge. You only need to leave your credit card for security.

Flamingo is the best of the big hotels for easy in-and-out. A poster last year asked here, then stayed there and reported afterwards that they were very happy.
Barbary is another good choice but no pool.

No matter what you do trying to avoid any major walking will hurt the fun for all. I know sometimes it's a matter of pride with people, but I'd strongly suggest you convince them to get a wheelchair. It will make the whole experience much better and less limiting for all concerned!!

Monte Carlo doesn't require going through the casino. And, all of the hotel and casino is on a single level, so no stairs at all.
I agree with the recommendations for renting a scooter or wheelchair.

The problem with the newer hotels is that although more handicapped accessible, they are mostly mega-resorts built far away from the curb of the strip, and therefore require a fair amount of distance just to get to the actual building.
I would look at the hotels on the Paris/Aladdin/Flamingo side of the street as they generally have entrances right near the street, while the hotels on the other side of the street generally have looong driveways/walkways just to enter their property.
I think the Flamingo and Barbary Coast are good suggestions, along with Paris, Aladdin (i know these are newer hotels but i think they'll fit the bill), and Harrahs (but i'd avoid Bally's due to long walk from curb to hotel).

I stayed at Flamingo a month ago, and it required lots of walking ever day, long hallways to the elevators, then another walk either to taxi or the strip. And their restaurants... you don't need to exercise to burn the calories, just walk to/from.
Is it Bally's that has a... what it's called? moving sidewalk like in the airports?
Leona, do a search, I remember seeing earlier some advices from a person with moving difficulties, like which hotels require less walking and no steps, it's not the one from 2 women who rented a wheelchair, it was something earlier.
