Hotel for group trip to Newport, RI

Several friends and I plan to meet in Newport, RI next April. I would like a hotel or inn recommendation which would be priced at $200 or less per night and which offers rooms with two beds. We will not have cars so it should be licated in walking distance to Bellvue Ave and the Cliff Walk.

Thank you.

No cars? No Ocean drive? No cocktails in adirondack chairs at The Cliff House?

How will the group get to Newport? Bus?

I don't know the off season rates, but have booked Hotel Viking with happy guests.

We will use a shuttle from Providence, taxis for in town travel. The Viking looks like a good possibility. Thank you.

You must visit the 40 Steps. My grandmother worked for Dr Rice of one of the mini summer cottages in the kitchen, never even saw the man. The servants would meet at the 40 steps to catch up with who from the old country had arrived and hang out. One can imagine a Titantic scene below deck with the servants dancing and playing music.

I lived in Newport many years ago and can hardly wait to return. I just hope the Creamery still has Awful Awfuls!

We stayed at the Hotel Viking just this past August. The hotel is in a good location. We were there on a high weekend (jazzfest) so the prices were high. We liked the location of the Hotel Viking better than our previous stay at the Marriott. Marriott is more modern and will definitely have two bedded rooms. Viking had character. We were in a king bedded room, but I am sure there are two bedded rooms. Our room was nice.

Thanks, girlonthego. They meet our price criteria for our weekend so it looks like a good fit.

On another note, I hope our friends in Bermuda are safe. It looks like they are right in Joaquin's path.

cmcfong, are still going to Bermuda every December? You saved us a bundle that time we went in June and stayed at the Southhampton Fairmont for 129 per night for a week! Probably the best travel deal I ever got!
Haven't been to Bermuda in several years. Would love to go again. I think it is about time!
