HOTEL BERESFORD & COMFORT INN BY THE BAY
Planning a trip to San Fransisco the end of Sept. I've been reading lots of travel books that suggest the Hotel Beresford at 635 Sutter St. as a good budget hotel. Also found a good price for the Comfort Inn By The Bay at 2775 Van Ness Ave. on Hotels.com. Any suggestions or coments on these places would be greatly appreciated.

Not familiar with either one, however come August you may find a good special online at one of our favorite San Fran locations, especially nice if you have a car because parking is included.

We stayed at Hotel Beresford and it was nice and a very good value. Good location too. Another good possibility you might want to check out is Nob Hill Hotel, but make sure you request a large double. They have a website--believe it's nobhillhotel.com. But the Beresford is probably a better location (closer to Union Square) if you don't have a car.

The Beresford Hotels has 3 locations. Our favorite is Hotel Beresford Arms at Post and Jones. It is a neat hotel with great staff. Have been going there for years. It is located in the down town area and you can take a bus or cable car to Fisherman's Wharf, it is close to China Town and not far from North Beach(the Italian area). No matter where you stay in SF you are only a bus or cab ride away from another area. Both places you are interested in staying are fine. The Beresford Hotels are downtown (shopping, theaters). The Comfort Inn is closer to Fisherman's wharf and the Marina area. You will love San Francisco no matter where you stay. The last time we stayed we decided to stay in Fisherman's wharf area and enjoyed the Raddison Hotel in the Wharf and have a great dinner at the Francisian http://www.franciscanrestaurant.com/. Have fun!!

I have a similar question. Have heard that there is a difference in the various Beresford Hotels in safety of location, Beresford Arms being in not as nice an area as Hotel Beresford (though ranked higher with tripadvisor.com), even though not many blocks away. Any comments?
