hotel advice

I am thinking about statying at the Embassy Suites Hotel Downtown Dupont Circle, since it received a good review in a travel book. I have come across some posts on this site which recommend the Chevy Chase and Alexandria Embassy Suites. Would you recommend them over the Dupont Circle one? I thought the Dupont Circle seemed like it was in D.C. rather than the outskirts, which might be a benefit - but maybe not. Is it far from the metro, and is it a safe area? Which would you recommend?
Thanks for any help!

You might get more help if you repost with a more descriptive title. "DC Hotel Advice" would work. Have a good trip!

I used to live near the Chevy Chase Embassy Suites hotel. It is a nice area - the high shopping area of DC (ie tiffanys, saks fifth avenue) and therefore very safe! But Dupont Circle is definately a better locale. I would go for Dupont.

I agree. The Dupont Embassy Suites is infinately preferable to the two subrban locations you mentioned. Dupont Embassy Suites is close to Metro and in an extremely safe area. Tourist sights, restaurants, etc. are all withing walking distance or a very short Metro ride.

Thanks for the advice.
I was also able to get good rates (although more costly than the Embassy Suites) at the Park Hyatt and the Grand Hyatt.
I know the metro is very convenient at the Grand Hyatt, but I am not familiar with Washington. How do these hotel locations compare - we plan on visiting the usual tourist attractions, and would like to have access to good restaurants at night. Also, do you know how the Park Hyatt compares to the Grand Hyatt?

The Grand Hyatt is a much better location than the Park Hyatt. Metro to the Archives station (right across Penn Ave from the Mall). It is the better location for restaurants of all types/prices in the immediate area as well - especially along 7th St. between I st. and D st. Although my favorite sopt in the area is Bisto D'OC right across the street from Ford's theater.

Both the Embassy Suites Dupont and Grand Hyatt are in good locations.

Dupont Circle to me is a little more like a "neigborhood", in that is has a special feel to it (and some great restaurants, including Pizzeria Paradiso, for really good pizza).

The Grand Hyatt is in the part of DC by the MCI Center (sports arena) that is seeing a resurgence as new hip restaurants have been opening up in the last few years (some favs: Jaleo's for tapas and Zola's for drinks).

Either one would be fine, both are safe. You could base your decision on price and be fine either way.

When are you coming to DC? It's freezing here today!
