Hotel Advice - is $149 a night too much?
I am heading to New Orleans on the 16th of January for a long weekend with 2 friends. We went last year in October and stayed at the Andrew Jackson Hotel on Royal. Now I know that place has some bad reviews, but we really liked it. I thought it had character, the location could not be beat, and the staff was really fun and friendly. So we booked the Andrew Jackson again this year, but this is supposed to be a relatively inexpensive get away for us and I just think $149 sounds a bit much for what we are getting.
Can anyone suggest a similar hotel that might cost a little less? Location is really the most important thing, we like to be very close to Bourbon and all the action. When I did some hotel searches it was hard to figure out where they were located. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Thank you for all of the replys. I did check some of those travel websites but I have never reserved through one of them before so I was a little leary of it. Plus I think you have to pay up front and you don't know the total rate until afterwards, like taxes and an extra person and all of that. I just don't want to screw up the plans and have my friends hate me.
I know the Andrew Jackson isn't all that nice but like I said, the location is great - and we are barely in the room anyway.
Thank you again!

If you are leary about web bookings, then call the hotel direct. Just give them your confirmation number and see about having them adjust the rate. I checked with the hotel and they have the 105 and 95 rate direct with their reservations department, not just through the internet.

Ok, I took the plunge and reserved the room over the internet at the rate of $105 a night. Called the AJ to confirm they had it, then cancelled my $149 reservation. Hope everything goes ok. The way I figure, the only extra charges I can seem to find is a $12 a day tax and a $10 a day extra person charge, which will put us at $127 max - still much better than before.
Thanks again for the help!
