"HOT" Tips for Surviving the N.O. Heat?
Hi -
Our first trip to N.O. will be the last week in August. Barring a miracle, I'm guessing it will be SWELTERING--and we both hate the heat. (This trip is in conjunction with a business event and could not be moved.)
So ... we're hoping to do most of our sightseeing very early in the mornings and after the sun goes down. We'll stay in the FQ and enjoy walking, architecture, and generally soaking in the surroundings. And speaking of soaking ... the plan is to spend the hottest part of the days briefly at the pool, and then reading and napping in the a/c. We're looking forward to hearing some good music at night. Although we'd enjoy it a different time of year, we're guessing that bayou tours will be way too hot.
So ... are there any must-see indoor daytime activities -- or any other "hot" tips for beating the heat?
Thanks!

Stay very hydrated, carrying bottled water with you. Stop for a cool drink or an ice cream cone during your day.
Do as much as possible in the mornings.
Great idea to save the hottest time of the day for napping, pool, etc.
For your "walking" tours, find out if they have trolley or bus tours. During the heat and humidity, the walking will take a toll on you. Bus and trolley tours are so much easier during hot days.

My Husband and I were in N.O. in July years ago and the heat was something awful. We sweated our way through the city eating and drinking. Drinking water that is. It rained everyday in the afternoon, which made the humity even worse. But the town is so fantastic as well as the people. The best way to stand the heat is to get into lots of a/c places. And eat lots of good food.
Our Hotel had a pool on the roof and we hung out there a lot. We didn't get out and about till later in the afternoon. It was a great place to people watch too.
