Honolulu with Sun Trips
We are considering taking a flight only to Honolulu in July with Sun Trips as it is considerably less expensive (about $200.00 per ticket) than all the airlines I have checked. We are staying with friends in Honolulu so don't need a package.
They are using a different airline (North American Airlines) than we have flown on with them in the past, and I would like comments from anyone who has flown with them on this new carrier. How is their on time record? Reasonably comfortable cabin? Anything you would like to tell me about getting from the mainland to Honolulu with Sun Trips will be appreciated.

NAA is better than SunTrips' earlier charter lines (ATA and SunCountry, AKA ScumCountry) -- but if your flight is full it'll still look and feel like a cattle car. Heck, the last time it even smelled like a cattle car. Just bring a sweater in case their usual 64 degree cabin temperature isn't comfortable for you.
But you will save some money, and they'll get you there on time, and in one piece. Probably.

Wow, are you hitting a nerve!! My parents go to Hawaii every year to spend 4 months. This year they decided to fly with Suntrips...it will be the last year they ever use Suntrips again!!!
First, their outgoing 9am morning flight got cancelled at the last minute...as in the morning of the flight, and they were told that they needed to wait until 2pm. I had already dropped them off at the Oakland Airport and was on my way back home to Sacramento. They were stuck at the Oakland airport and Suntrips gave them each a voucher for $10 for food for that whole day! Have you ever tried to eat one meal, let alone 2 meals for $10 at an airport?
But wait, it gets better. Their returned flight was scheduled for April 21st. They left January 5th, on January 27th, Suntrips called their home and left a message on the answering machine telling them that their April 21st flight had been cancelled and they had booked them on the April 20th flight!! Then the girl who left the message said, Oops, I notice you're already gone on your trip! Lovely, what if my sister hadn't decided to delete all the messages on their machine and turn it off? We would have never known that their flight on the 21st was cancelled until they showed up at the airport on that day.
It keeps getting better. My mom called to talk about this flight situation and asked them, what if I'd change my departure date to April 25th. Guess what they said?? Oh, we'll have to charge you for making a change to your itenerary!!! What audacity!!!
Anyway, they will be flying back with Suntrips, but next year, even if it cost them each $200 or $300 more to fly, they WILL NOT fly with Suntrips.
Having a day taken off your vacation, actually 2 days, if you consider the departure day being a waste, isn't so bad when you go to Hawaii for 4 months, but if you're not retired like my parents and only have a limited number of vacation days....do yourself a favor, don't go with Suntrips!

Next year your parents should fly on Aloha out of Oakland. We went from Bur in Jan for ten days and got a great price. A wonderful airline, they treat you like they really want you to be happy and fly with them again.
