Honolulu - 2 Questions re Transportation

Aloha.

First time to Honolulu. Arriving Saturday afternoon, leaving Wednesday. So really only 3 full days to explore. Getting a lot of info from Oahu Revealed. I had used the Kauai version when traveling there a few years ago.

Question #1: Transportation from Airport to our hotel (the Waikiki Prince Kuhio, 2500 Kuhio Avenue). Blue book mentions Airport Shuttle ($20) or Tabi Trans ($5) rather than a traditional taxi ($27). Suggestions? Other options?

Question #2: We would like to rent a car for a day or two but not on day of arrival. Any recommendations for a car rental agency within walking distance of our hotel? Thought we would rent a car on Monday and/or Tuesday. Would you suggest returning the car to the agency at the end of each day rather than paying for costly parking?

Thank you for any and all tips.

aloha, roberts hawaii offers an airport shuttle for $9.00 one way or $15.00 roundtrip. Shuttle departs ariport every 20 minutes every day. Fare allows for two pieces of luggage. Additional charges will apply for odd-sized, oversized and extra pieces.
A block from hotel is VIP Rentals & 3 blocks @ the Hyatt has budget rental cars.

I've taken a Waikiki Hotel Shuttle Bus but price was more like $9.00 pp 1-way (not $20). I just walked outside to ground transportation, asked around, and stood where someone pointed. Depending on where your hotel is located in the loop they do (stopping at any hotel that someone requests) it can take 1+ hour or so.

These days I just spring for the taxi, because I would rather BE there, getting the vacation started. I can save that much money easily somewhere else along the way.

Rent a car the entire time & get out & see Oahu.

Waikiki Prince was recently purchased by Hilton. There may still be some construction there.

I just looked at this website & it mentions that the balconies are closed off for safety reasons. You might want to contact them.

Lots to do on Oahu:

Waikiki Prince is in a nice area, about 1 block from the beach.

It is Radisson Waikiki Prince Kuhio on this map:

If you want a car for a couple days, and are only staying 3 total, why not just rent the car from the start?

Mahalo to all for your replies.

dusty56438, thanks for the links.

Suze, re car rental question. We arrive late afternoon on Saturday and thought we would explore Waikiki Saturday and Sunday (via foot, The Bus, etc.). Then, rent a car for Monday/Tuesday. I was wondering if we should return the car each day rather than hassle w/parking.

Again, many thanks.
