honeymoon in Hawaii

I'm planning a honeymoon in Hawaii the second week of September. Does anyone have any suggestions of a nice hotel or resort for honeymooners? I'm leaning towards the island of Maui, and am looking at the Four Seasons and Grand Wailea Resorts right now. Does anyone have any info about these two places?
Also, what is the weather like in September?

My wife and I were in Maui 2 years ago and stayed at the Stouffer Renaissance hotel, which was pretty nice in itself. Nothing near the 4 seasons or Grand Wailea, which are just down the road in Wailea. Of the 2, I'd say the Grand Wailea is probably the most exquisite hotel on Maui, if not all of Hawaii. The grounds and property are just spectacular. The area is somewhat more laid back than Oahu, unless you're a golfer. Most of the activities happen in the Lahaina area(other than at the hotels themselves)

The Grand Wailea is an excellent choice. Did you consider Kauai? IMO it is more beautiful than Maui. The Hyatt Regency is a great honeymoon spot , or if you prefer the other side of the island, the Princeville is great too. Try not to miss the big island, you won't be disappointed.

Well, like the person above I am also looking to honeymoon in Hawaii the 2nd week of September. I was wondering if the Princeville is a better choice than the Hyatt in Kauai. We heard Kauai is beautiful--Maui sounds great too but we only have a week and need to choose between the two. If anyone has advice for me or the person above-We'd love to hear from you.

My recommendations for luxe, romantic Hawaiian honeymoons: 1.) Four Seasons Hualalai on the Big Island, Kona side; 2.) Four Seasons Maui; 3.) Manele Bay Hotel on Lanai; 4.) Ritz Carlton on Maui.

Grand Wailea is the nicest hotel anywhere. It is always featured ON CNN and in lists of the 10 best hotels etc. We have been several times and it is beyond romantic. We were there for our 13th anniversary and we acted like it was out honeymoon-ha. Pricey but so worth it. So you go into Lahina and eat at Denny's to even out the bill.

To the north of Wailea is Kapalua Bay hotel which gets overlooked so often but has the nicest, safest cove on the island for snorkeling and it sits way up high for massive views. We see very unusual fish there. Lots of rock stars are always there for some reason. One of our trips to Grand Wailea (I was 6 months pregnant) they were shooting the Ford Model search with 50 young girls posing by the pool and Cindy Crawford running around. The girls all glowed with beauty. Please. I just made another pass at the breakfast buffet.

You will have a wonderful time no matter where you stay. The Marriott there is old and the pool feels scummy. Skip that. The boat trip to Molokini crater is the best snorkeling, better than St. John's or anywhere I have ever gone but perhaps we had the conditions just right. We always go to Hawaii in September. Slow time and usually cheaper.

Avalon in Lahina and Roy's are good spots for dinner and Cheeseburger in Paradise a fun spot. Shopping was too touristy for me everywhere.

The beaches south of Wailea are really deserted and nice to drive too. There are some guys that take your picture with there birds on your shoulder and it sounds corny but they make them to be post cards and it is funny but anyone I send them too seems to have the card displayed in their home.

Let me know if you have any questions. I am home with a 3 year old and have the time.

Aloha

I spent my honeymoon at the Maui Hyatt and it was beautiful. But if we go back (and we are planning to), we'll go to the Grand Wailea. Truly beautiful and worth the extra $. I agree with all restaurants mentioned. There are plenty of places to eat that are nice and won't break the bank. The best thing is that after all the madness of planning a wedding, Maui is so laid back and peaceful. You will go back.

Might sound silly, but check into the weather on the side of the island you're looking at for that time of year. We spend our honeymoon last November at the beautiful Ritz-Carlton in Kapalua, where it RAINED every day! But once we drove South, inot Lahaina and past, the weather was beautiful. All the natives told us that the weather was normal, but the tour guides and travel agents don't let you know that!
And keep in mind that the islands offer different lifestyles, so if you're "nature people" you probably don't want to miss Kauai. If you're more into action and nightlife, you might want to actually spend a day or 2 on Oahu. And everyone seems to love Maui!

I just finished planning someone's honeymoon and they are doing 5 nights at the Four Seasons Wailea and 5 nights at the Princeville in Kauai. To be brief, the rating books actually put Four Seasons ahead of the Grand Wailea, maybe because the first is smaller tham the latter therefore more personalized service? The rates at the Four Seasons for October were stay 4 nights and get the 5th night free, averaging to 236.00 a night and this includes parking, tennis, health club, cabanas at the pool and 1 hour free snorkelling equipment daily!!!THe princeville is to die for. Feel free to email if any more quiestions. Annemarie.
