Honeymoon during springbreak? Where can we go to avoid the chaos?

We just realized our honeymoon falls on the same week as half the country's spring break. We want to stay in the US and avoid the drunken college kids. Nothing too cold and nothing too terribly far from Texas, ex.Alaska and Maine are not options. Our wedding is in late March and we only have a week allowed for the honeymoon. Any ideas?

There are plenty of good vacation spots in Florida that are not packed with spring breakers. Even the Keys really doesn't have much of a spring break crowd if you aren't staying in Key West or Islamorada. I'm not sure, but I don't think the Southwest FL coast (Sanibel/Captiva, etc) gets much of one, either. And the area between Stuart and Vero Beach on the East coast of FL will be relatively quiet, as well.

Even in Texas, other than Padre Island, Spring Brekers are not a problem. Just don't go to the beach! ;-)

How about a week in the Hill Country? Stay at cute B&Bs, shop at antique malls and cute downtown stores, eat at local restaurants, etc.

Well, Hawaii isn't terribly close to Texas - but usually reachable by nonstop flight(at least from DWF or Houston). Not too much here in terms of spring breakers (too expensive for the average college student). The weather is perfect in March, wonderful beaches, many romantic spots, etc.

I have been to Key West during March/April spring break time and found it to be overrun with the usual drunken mob scene. Other keys may be somewhat quieter.

How about one of the Caribbean islands? I would stay away from Costa Rica, but the other islands should be ok. Another thought is a cruise.

Gina,
fyi Costa Rica is in Central America, its not an island. It is though a great place to visit, for me anyways. Loved to play around in a cloud forest for a few days! Lots of amazing birds.

Geez XXX,
Thought I was a lot more civil them most posters on these boards who make corrections. I made one correction, did not make any comments like "geez". I don't expect everyone to know that Costa Rica in not an island but I did feel it okay to correct Gina. Gina Im sorry if you took offense.
And XXX it depends where you go in Costa Rica during spring break. We had the beach to ourselves when i went during my last spring break. Saw no other spring breakers at all. We went more to different parks to see different tropical forests then stay in one central location and party the entire week.
And claws? I don't have claws I have fangs. grrrrrrrr
