My fiancé and I are planning our honeymoon for June 1 - 10. We have decided to just stay on Kauai and not go island hopping. However, we can't decide between staying at the Princeville for all 9 nights or breaking it up and staying there for 5 nights and then somewhere else on the southshore for the other 4. I know that the northshore area gets more rain, but since we'll be there in June I didn't think it would be too bad. We are definitely going to rent a car and travel around the island so that we can do some good hiking, snorkeling and sightseeing. Would it be easier to do this by staying on both sides of the island and not have to drive around as much or will we be fine just staying up North?

It might be a good idea to split the time. While Kauai is a small island, Princeville is not a central location and the driving may get tedious and interfere with your enjoyment of the south shore.

Note that Princeville is a Starwood property and you might be able to get a deal if you also stay at the Sheraton Poipu. Note, however, that the Sheraton is a MUCH lesser property so you would want to begin at the sheraton and end at Princeville so that your accommodations are not a let-down.

The Hyatt in Poipu is a beautiful property. I have no experience with their rooms, but the grounds are gorgeous. I don't think that staying here would be a let-down from Princeville.

The south shore is warmer and dryer but the views are much more stunning on the north shore.

I think it depends on which you find more bothersome - packing/unpacking an extra time or driving more.

We spent 5 days at the Princeville in late May (didn't rain once!) and drove to the south shore area 2 times...didn't mind the drive one bit because it's absolutely gorgeous everywhere you look. I think the north shore is the most beautiful place I have ever been so I would probably vote to stay there the entire time and plan accordiningly to see and do south shore activities with the least amount of driving.

I would second the Hyatt for part of your stay. Another possible option is to stay at the Marriott Waoihai Vacation Club. It's in Poipu right down the road from the Hyatt. They are all 2 BR villas. I think they are currently running a promotion of 5 nights for $800 incuding a rental car. And while it is a timeshare property, they do not require you to sit through the presentation.

We did this this past May and liked it a lot. The units were great and we saved a little money to boot. While it doesn't have all of the features of a full service resort, it is a great place. If you are open to that, this might be a nice option if they have availability. You can get their number from their website... marriottvacationclub.com.
