Homestead or Berry Hill Plantation

My husband, one yr old daughter and I want to go for a weekend break somewhere drivable from Washington D.C. We are trying to decide between Homestead and Berry Hill and I was wondering which one you would recommend. Tx.

I have never been to Berry Hill, but I have been to the Homestead and very highly recommend it. The setting of this historic resort is beautiful, luxurious accomodations, southern charm and hospitality at it's best and there is so much to do! I enjoyed outdoor ice skating, hiking and the indoor pool. The evening formal dining experience is the best, with music provided by an orchestra (at least when I was there)and you will be waited upon hand and foot! Also, they do have babysitting services if you are interested in a romantic dinner alone, but you do have to let them know well in advance (not sure if Berry Hill offers this; and of course you may not be interested in this!).

You simply cannot go wrong with this historic luxury resort! You will feel very pampered and bit like Scarlet O'Hara for a week-end! Enjoy!

I have stayed at Berry Hill Plantation several times. It's truly a lovely, historic property and has many amenities. Price-wise, I'm fairly certain that it's going to be significantly less expensive than the Homestead.

The question really comes down to what you want out of your weekend. Berry Hill has many activities, but are they the activities you are looking for? Tennis, swimming, horseback riding, hiking, spa and fine dining are all on the list. Not sure there's much for a 1-year-old, though.

I will also note that if you go to Berry Hill, you need to be content with what's on site there. Short of the Virginia International Raceway, there is virtually nothing else going on in the surrounding area.

Thank you. I did find a $99 rate for Berry Hill, so we're going to stay there this time, though I can't wait to go to Homestead and Greenbriar.

Just returned from Berry Hill. It was lovely. Our daughter enjoyed the pool and the grounds. It's definitely great value for the cost.
