Holiday Inn Expess

Admit that I have not stayed in a HIE in years. I hear that they have all been upgraded with great showereheads and curtains.
Anyone with first hand experience?

We are staying at one tomorrow night, so I guess I will find out. The one we will be at has been rennovated about a year ago. I can let you know in about a week.

They vary GREATLY, you need to check the reviews before booking one.

Most of them have GREAT fresh baked cinnamon buns for breakfast, so even if the room is a little run down, I'M THERE!

On average they are just fine. In some areas they are the best place to stay. Beware of the ones converted from an old motel that didn't make it. There is one in Ocean Shores, WA, and in Butte, Mt, I believe.

I have had terrific experiences with HIE here in North Carolina, in West Virginia, in Florida, etc. For the money, the ones I've stayed in have been just great, and so clean.... even though these were ones that allow pets. They were immaculate and the service excellent. The one at The Villages, Florida feels like a resort...... couldn't believe it! HIE and Hampton Inns are the ones I go for first, in that price category.

I'm with Bonnie. The ones I've stayed in are very nice and have been consistent. In my neck of the woods the HIEx are new construction hotels and the older existing hotels remained "Holiday Inn". I've never stayed in an Express that was a converted hotel (all have been new structures).

At that price point, I have only chosen Hampton Inns for years, but last year started staying at LaQuintas and now Holiday Inns agains (after 20 years). The Hampton Inns, LaQuinta Inns AND SUITES, and Holiday Inn EXPRESS have all been new construction with good free breakfast and clean and comfortable rooms - WITH high speed internet access.

The HIE is not our choice for a destination hotel, but while on the road we stay in one if available when we stop for the night. My husband likes them, and I love the cinnamon rolls (oink!).

I've had no problems with the HIE while traveling. On upcoming trips this year to Baton Rouge, Canadian Rockies, and Maine we will be staying in nine of them enroute.

I agree with Babs and Ronkala that I usually stay in HIE on the road to somewhere else.

I did stay at the one in Boone NC for a ski vacation using points - and was surprised at how nice it was. It was completely sold out our entire stay and the breakfast area was swamped with skiers. The staff kept everything stocked and clean. Very good experience.
