Hike to the summit of Mt Marcy

Hello fellow travelers, I just returned from our climb to the top of New York---the highest peak of Mount Marcy. Located near Lake Placid in the Adirondack Mountains, this 14.8 mile roundtrip hike took us nealr 11 hours to complete...but the views were worth it! Chech out our trip report and pics for more info http://www.naturalbornhikers.com/MountMarcy/Marcy.htm Enjoy!

Nice photos! Thanks! I've hiked Marcy three times - although the last time was over 10 years ago. How were the bears?

Thanks wliwl! Congrats on your Marcy summits. We didn't encounter any bears while hiking...the biggest animal we saw were some toads A copule of times, I did see a small furry animal dart under some rocks (looked like a furry rodent type animal with no tail)--any idea what they were? Thanks for the kind words about the pics. happy travels, velodurt

Nice pictures. My son made that hike last year. He also hiked Baxter Peak on that trip. I'll have to tell him about the pictures on your website when he gets back. We have both looked at your website before. He really enjoys reading other peoples adventures.

Right now he is on another hike. I heard from him about 1:20pm MDT. He was about 7 1/2 miles into his hike up King's Peak in Utah. He said he was about where he was going to camp for the night. Tomorrow he hopes to make it to the top.

Hey everyone, thanks for the kind words!

Sharrin, thanks for checking out our website and for forwarding it to your son. I hope he has a perfect climb up Kings...very cool! Let me know how it turns out.

cmcfong, I would have to say that my favorite is the Grand Canyon's Phantom Ranch...with Sperry Chalet in Glacier National Park a close second. How about you?

Was the small furry animal mouse size? (A vole?) Or larger? (A weasel perhaps?) I see mink in the Adirondacks fairly often (always near water)and weasels occasionally (there are a couple different kinds - all have tails though). Once, in the middle of nowhere, I got a quick glance at something I thought was a cat, but someone later told me it was probably a marten. I would have really liked to get a better look at that!!!

I'm a terribly slow hiker (everyone hates going with me) because I like to find every bird around me. Usually I have to just be content to recognize their song and know what they are, because no one wants to wait for me (which I understand).

Anyway, toads are good!
