Highway 20 from Sacramento to Hopland? To Mendocino?

Wow...I would love to avoid going the 101 route if I can. That's south from Sacramento, around Napa, then north. It seems like a better route to go #5 from Sac airport to 20. Later we are going to Mendocino, hopefully on highway 20 to Ft Bragg, then south. I'd like to avoid 128! What is #20 like between those stretches? Many thanks!

We always go this route==
"5" to Williams then "20" which goes around upper part of Clear Lake
over to "101"--then up to Willits and back on "20" to coast--this brings you 2-3 miles below Fort Bragg and 10 miles north of Mendicino.
Roads are good --2 lanes on"20" flat after you leave
Williams, then some hills, somewhat slow pace around Clear Lake (especially on weekends) Willits to Fort Bragg is 34 miles--11 of which are twisty--lots of turn outs and few passing lanes.
If you want to go to Hopland, there is a turn off as you get to the west end of the lake,.
PS if this is a duplicate --sorry.. pushed wrong button!!!

From Yuba City to Williams, Hwy 20 goes through farmland and some small farming towns. It's a fine road, nothing too exciting, although you pass by the Sutter Buttes which have the distinction of being the shortest mountain range in the world.

I haven't been on Hwy 20 beyond Williams since I was a kid, so I don't have any useful advice other than that my family used to drive Hwy 20 to Fort Bragg all the time so I know you can get there

My cousin lives in Mendocino and her parents are near Sac. She ususally takes the 20 route. It is better than 128, although there is a part of 128 between Cloverdale and the coast that is pretty at the Anderson Valley.

I would not take the route over to Hopland. This is one windy road. We took it once and that was enough.

I thought that 20 all the way to fort bragg was not as bad as some parts of 128.

Thank you friends! I don't think you can escape "windy" through this area, LOL. 128 was fine, but, oh God, that Ukiah/Compthe Rd had me barfing in a bag! I just wanted to make sure that 20 wasn't like that! What a wonderful part of America, don't you agree?
