I'm so behind on my reports! Just posted a Maui trip report from June 2009. Now it's time to share our August North Carolina trip.
Vacationers: husband, me, 17 yr old son and his friend
We rented a cabin through VRBO and were so thrilled with our choice. The rustic cabin in the Highlands area was recently remodeled; however, the contractor managed to keep the originality of the 150 year old cabin (should mention the cabin has been added on to since it's inception). This property is located about 5 miles up the mountain and is very private. There is 15 acres to hike and enjoy the woods.
Drove to several waterfalls in the area. Loved the back woods country roads, particularly Horse Cove Road and Buck Creek Road. Beautiful views. This entire area is like a breath of fresh air. It was a very relaxing vacation for us.
Most of our meals were at the cabin, but we had a very good meal at On the Verandah (Highlands). I liked to grab a danish and iced coffee or tea at Bucks Coffee Cafe. Oh yes, nice restaurant in Franklin called The Chef and His Wife. Quaint little place.
Shopping in this area is fantastic if you enjoy antiques, home decor, soaps, lotions and candles! (and yes, I enjoy all of these things!!) The towns of Highlands and Cashiers were my favorites to roam.
Spent a day at The Biltmore. Even the boys enjoyed the tour! The only downside was it was very hot. The history of the Biltmore is fascinating and I'm so glad I finally got to see it.
We rented a pontoon at Lake Glenville and got caught in a very cold rainstorm. Within 30 minutes the rain was gone and we enjoyed the remainder of the afternoon fishing and admiring the homes around the lake.
This was a very relaxing vacation. I highly recommend this area of North Carolina.
