Helping bride to be... Hyatt in Maui and Oahu booked, other suggestions?

Hi all! As part of my bridesmaid function, I am helping my future sis-in-law out (bride) with research. She was hoping to book Hyatt Maui and Hyatt Oahu in August for her 2 week honeymoon and just found out that it is booked from her travel agent. He is recommending the Sheraton. I don't recall reading much info on this site on the Sheraton. What do you guys recommend? Price is a bit of an object, so it would be good if they have those deals (5th or 6th night free, free breakfast, etc...) because it would help but they want to stay at a nice place. I am recommending to her Hyatt Kauai but I have a feeling it is probably sold out if the Maui, and Oahu Hyatts are sold out. Any experience with Sheratons? I would recommend her to stay in a hotel at Kaanapali in Maui. Let me know your suggestions with Maui, Kauai, and Oahu. I don't think they would like the BI for their honeymoon - kind of boring there. Thanks.

Hawaii is very expensive, not just lodging but food and entertainment too. And the most expensive places are on the best parts of the islands and beaches. I live in Hawaii and got married here and spent part of my honeymoon here and the rest in Fiji and Bali. We spent a lot on our honeymoon and we were glad we did because it's something we will always remember and talk about. I'd rather have a shorter honeymoon or go to a cheaper place (Asia, Mexico, Bali, Fiji) where I can afford the best instead of worrying about how much it costs every day. All inclusive resorts are nice that way. I love the Princeville Hotel on Kauai, I think It's a Sheraton, The Four Seasons on Maui (the oceanfront rooms) and the Ritz Carleton. On Oahu, the Oriental Mandarin and the Halekalini. If you tell the hotels it's a honeymoon sometimes you get special packages and other goodies. Keep us posted on what you decide on! Aloha!

The Sheraton in Kaanapali is very nice. It has some great snorkeling too. If not the Sheraton, consider the Weston on Kaanaplai. Also nice and has an adult pool. Have you checked directly from the Hyatt? Lots of times the hotel, when contacted directly, does have rooms. I'm sure they have a toll free number. Also I have found that if it's full begging helps or a plea about it being a honeymoon. Hey do what you can.

The Sheraton Maui is very nice. Both times I have stayed there I have been upgraded to a deluxe ocean front room - so romantic! If you join the starwood guest program (like a frequent flyer program - starwood.com) for the starwood line of hotels (sheraton, ritz, etc.) you can get a discount for hotels in Hawaii. The rate for the sheraton was about 30% less than the other rates I found, including the AAA rate, etc. Some of the sheratons on Oahu are on the beach, but are in a very crowded area of Waikiki. However, unlike many Waikiki hotels, the Sheratons (2 of them at least - Surfrider and another I can't recall the name) are actually on the beach. The Halekulani and Hilton are also on the beach in Waikiki. The Halekulani is dreamy - so beautiful! I hope this helps. Good luck with the planning.

You guys are great! Thanks for the quick feedback. I cut and pasted the response for her and e-mailed it to her. She is so busy planning her wedding she does not have time to go into this site. Thanks again!!

I just wanted to add my two cents - Halekulani would get my vote. It's a beautiful, luxurious hotel with understated elegance. The room was soooo comfortable, with a balcony and a gorgeous oceanview. We stayed there for a week, and would have been happy to move in! Perfect for a honeymoon...c

On Maui, try either the Kaanapali Beach Hotel - very Hawaiian feeling - or Napili Kai Beach Resort. Both have informative web sites.

My son and his new wife just returned from their honeymoon on Oahu and Maui. They stayed in both Hyatt's and loved it. My travel agent suggested going through Blue Sky Tours and we were very happy with them.

We honeymooned at Hyatt Regency Maui in 1996 - awesome - when it is booked, I would recommend calling the hotel directly and appealing to the General Manager. The GM is usually the pinnacle of customer service and always has secret cards to play for certain special requests. I did not not the man but was able to have a special request filled when everyone smiled and said impossible.

I would definitely go with the Halekulani in Oahu but if the price was too prohibitive then I would phone the Sheraton Moana Surfrider. My first choice in Maui would be the Four Seasons Sheraton then maybe the Kea Lani. I have not heard totally positive things about the Sheraton Maui so be careful there.

Hi. I've stayed at the Hyatt/Maui and the Sheraton Maui. Although I liked both of them, I'd definitely go with the Hyatt over the Sheraton for a honeymoon especially. We were marrried at the Hyatt Maui and we also honeymooned there. It couldn't have been more perfect. The staff was wonderful. I checked a week or so ago, and they sure did have availability. I think certain travel companies buy up blocks of hotel rooms, and when the rooms don't sell, then the block is released. So don't give up on the Hyatt. Also, I think the Princeville Sheraton on Kauai is absolutely gorgeous. I've been therre for dinners and such, never stayed there, but my friend has twice, and loved it.
Also, don't give up on the big isle. My husband and I stayed at the Hapuna Prince Beach REsort last June and it was awesome. It's on the prettiest (and only natural made white sand beach on the big isle. It's fantastic, and the rooms were wonderful, and big. All have an ocean view of some sort. And they have a one-night free program. They're a Westin property. What I loved about that place was the fabulous beach and the beautiful blue water. Much prettier than the water on Maui, and they gave you complimentary lounge chairs (instead of having to pay for them $25 a day like on Maui)
It's really no pricier than the Hyatts or the Sheratons. Let me reiterate about the Sheraton Maui. There was nothing wrong with the place per se, but the ambience just wasn't what the Hyatt's was. We did like the Sheraton's pool, and the beach in front of Sheraton is nicer than in front of Hyatt, but the rooms are so much tinier than at the Hyatt and we weren't that thrilled with the place. You know, I don't have anything against Oahu. I always enjoyed my stays there. However, that was before I found the Big Isle and Kauai and Maui, and for a honeymoon, that just doesn't sound like the ideal honeymooning place. But to each his own. Feel free to e-mail me with any questions, and i AM NOT A TRAVEL AGENT BY THE WAY, just a Hawaii traveler.

Just noticed a typo in my previous response to you...the Four Seasons in Wailea, Maui is simply that- a Four Seasons and not a Sheraton..they are not in the same league...Four Seasons is far superior. Sorry.
