HELP with San Rafael RESTOs
Will be in SR on business next month for 2 nights and would love local, non-chain alternative resto advice. I've heard Kasbah is great. Any comments/suggestions? Thanks.

Kasbah in SR is no longer in business. There is a good (but spendy)Spanish/tapas place, Avance, where it used to be.
In downtown SR, Sher-E-Punjab in has great Indian food; if you like Afghani food, try Bamyan in Montecito Plaza.
Are you looking for anything in particular? Upscale, ethnic, etc? SR is also a short drive from a variety of other great restaurants in Marin.

i will have a car, and I'm staying at embassy suites. it's a corporate thing, and i think upscale (i like "spendy") but not over-the-top. be about 6-8 people. I love indian, afghani and mediteranian as well. Give me the lowdown for Marin as well! And thanks so much for your insight.

Hello, the restaurants I referred to in my earlier post for Indian and Afghani food are fairly casual but pleasant.
In greater Marin, check out Lark Creek Inn and the Left Bank, both in Larkspur (about 10 min. away). Cuisine is country-style French, upscale but not stuffy. Yankee Pier, run by the same person as Left Bank, serves casual East-coast style seafood and good lemon meringue pie.
Chalet Basque in SR is about 5 min. from your hotel, and serves good Basque food in a fairly casual setting.
Sushi Ko In Larkspur Landing (10 min. away) has fantastic sushi and Japanese food.
You can get good Italian at Il Davide and Cinecitta in SR. I also recommend D'Angelos in Mill Valley.
Las Camellias in SR serves Mexican in a nice setting. There are also a number of local taquerias.
The Panama Hotel in SR has an eclectic menu and setting. I think they also have outdoor seating and live jazz.
Most of the restaurants I mentioned have websites where you can check out their menus, etc.
Let me know if you have any other questions and I'll try to help . . .
