Help with route from Monument Valley to Lake Powell

Could anyone help me with the route from Monument Valley to Lake Powell? It seems like it is approximately 50 miles shorter to take Hwy 98 through Kaibito, but several suggested routes say take US 160 south to US 89 north. Is there a problem with Hwy 98? Thank you!

We took that road last June, and there was no problem. It's a little desolate, but that's all. I could never figure out why it wasn't recommended over the longer route. I wouldn't do it at night, because it has some hilly and curvy spots that might make hitting a deer more likely.

We do Hwy 98 in our motorhome. It's a good route and will save 50 miles and about an hours driving time.

On another subject, I have just found out where the entrances to Valley of the Gods are. Do you all have any opinion about whether it is a worthwhile side trip? We will be staying in Bluff.

utahtea - I should have said thank you first. I've seen many of your posts about the area, and that is why I thought to ask about Valley of the Gods!

HappyLC,

The Valley of the Gods was a nice side trip. Whether or not it's worth it depends on what you would be cutting to fit it in.

Utahtea, now that we've decided to stop at Valley of the Gods on the way to Mexican Hat from Torrey, how about Muley Point overlook to the west? Have you been there?

OH YES, wonderful views of Monument Valley off in the distance. It's been several years since we've done that route because of the Motorhome.

We're going to have to have a tow vehicle so we can go to some of these places again!
