hclapp,
I live in Park City and go up to Jackson often. When I go, I head east on I-80, take hwy 89 through Evanston, WY and go up the east side of Bear Lake. You do not see the lake on this route. It is not the most scenic, but one of the fastest ways. Takes 4.5 hours. No need to stop over unless you want to stay at Bear Lake or the gorgeous Star Valley, WY.
The most scenic route is through Logan Canyon and up the west side of Bear Lake over to Montpelier and then you head the same way up through Star Valley. Very beautiful, but can be very slow due to windy, single lane traffic with RVs through Logan Canyon and over the pass to Bear Lake.
August is peak season for vacations and RVs so expect traffic. OK if you are not in a rush, but do have reservations somewhere if you plan to stay overnight!
