We are a family of 4, 2 girls 10 and 7, planning a road trip from Colorado Springs to South Padre Island in June. We will be traveling south from Colorado to Texas and planning some stops in between. We want to go through the Hill Country and stop in San Antonio before heading down to our rented Condo in SPI. Can anyone help me out with things to do? I heard the float trip down the river is super cool.
Thank you!

Lubbock's Ranching Heritage Center might be a good stop with your girls if you have any interest in exposing them to a little history. If they have read the Laura Ingalls Wilder books or seen the tv programs about the Little House on the Prairie, they might learn a lot there.
I'm not sure if you are referring to the tourist boats on the Riverwalk in San Antonio or tubing on Texas rivers, but you could enjoy both. June in Texas means hot weather, so you might also plan to go to one of the water parks. Schlitterbahn is popular. Sea World in San Antonio might also interest your girls.
I don't know if you ever made it to South Padre in 2010, but there is a very good aquarium on the mainland and Padre Island National Seashore has a good visitors center with a very knowledgeable staff.
I agree with saige. SCHLITTERBAHN!!!
The Alamo.
If you come through Fredricksburg make a stop at the National Museum of the Pacific War. Where else can you see a Japanese mini submarine? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HA._19_%28Japanese_Midget_Submarine%29
Admiral Nimitz grew up in Fredricksburg. There are a couple of good German restaurants there too.
