Help me decide on maui snorkeling tour
I cannot decide between the four winds II and pacific whale foundation for a snorkeling trip. I heard that the four winds II is excellent, but they only make one stop at molokini. However the PWF tour goes to molokini, lanai, and a dolphin/turtle area. They both are similiarly priced. Has anyone been on both that they can recommend which one they enjoyed better? Also is it worth it to go to lanai or just stay at molokini for the whole trip? Thanks for the help.

Four Winds is billed as the "Boat for Fun Lovers," or something like that. It has an open bar and a water slide. The Pacific Whale Foundation is a non-profit org dedicated to preserving the ocean and sea life. They have naturalists on board who will answer your questions and educate you, a pretty neat kids' program, and the profits from your fare goes to the Foundation.
It has been a few years since I snorkeled at all, but I did enjoy the snorkeling off of Lana`i with PWF. When we were off Lana`i, the naturalists went out and dove down, bringing up things for show and tell for the kids. As a big kid, I liked this part the best. They had warm, fresh-baked cookies on the ride back too. A good cookie can make or break a deal for me.

We've snrokeled both Molokini and Lana`i w/ PWF. We enjoyed the enthusiasm and support the mission of PWF. My childen loved the kids' program aboard. We also found the snorkeling much better off Lana`i. It certainly was less crowded with two-legged swimmers. If you are interested in dolphins you should know that Lana`i has one of the largest concentrations of spinners in the world. Much more acrobatic than those turtles.

I have been to Molokini on a tour boat and also stayed at a condo in Makena close to where the tour boats come to moor and show the tourists the turtles.
They are both awesome sights to visit and worth the trip. The best snorkeliing I found was just off shore at the Black rock in Kaanapali and Ulua beach in Wailae/Kihei. I did not visit Lanai and cannot comment.

We went to Maui the last 2 summers and I'd go with the Four Winds. The crew is awesome and treated my kids like royality....3 young teens! Black Rock is a definite as well...I think I remember it being just off shore near the Hilton.

I'm very surprised nobody mentioned Trilogy. I went on one of their tours to molokini and it was great. not only were the snorkel sites great (we went to molokini and turtle town), the crew was great. we had hot cinnamon buns, hot coco, grilled chicken, ice cream, etc. i really loved trilogy. go to their website, www.trilogy.com. u wont regret it. i heard the trip to lana'i is even better.
