Help me choose a hotel in San Francisco!

My DH & I are planning a trip to San Francisco from May 29-June 3. I need help with choosing a hotel so please send me your recommendations!

Price range: $150-200 per night
Preferred area: Union Square (willing to stay in another area)

Thanks in advance for your replies!

I've been looking for an upcoming trip myself (different dates) and have seen the Clift Hotel for quite good prices on quikbook.com but it's quite pricey for your dates. There aren't many options at that budget but I see the Petite Auberge on quikbook for $175 and it gets quite good reviews here although I've not stayed there. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Rev...alifornia.html

Are you willing to try Priceline? -- I understand you can get some great deals in San Francisco. If you do, try "Union Square East" and NOT "Union Square West" (some of which goes just a little too far west, into an area that is on the sketchy side).

I really like the Galleria Park. It is a smaller "boutique" hotel near Union Square but to the east---closer to the Embarcadero.

However, I see that for your dates it is more than double what I have paid there for rooms in the past. I wonder if something is going on that weekend to drive prices up?

Enzian, this is Memorial Day weekend

Louis, you can do a search on Expedia to see prices and locations - and come back to confirm the hotel is in a safe area.

There is also a big convention that weekend, so Union Sq hotels are going to be top $$$'s.

I have stayed at the Andrews Hotel just off Union Square a couple times, it's in that price range. It gets mixed reviews, but I liked it a lot. I recently sent a coworker on business there, he also liked it fine.
