Help, from the Uk and coming to New York for Thanksgiving day
Hello Everyone
I have read some of the prevoius posts on New York but i want your advise, we are going to watch the parade but i don't know what to do afterwards. We Want to go and have thanksgiving dinner in a nice restaurant, what time do you normally go for dinner? - is there a website with a list of restaurants serving Thanksgiving dinner? And what do you normally do in evening? I am really excited about being in New York for thanksgiving day, any advise would be great. Thanks

Traditionally Thanksgiving "Dinner" is eaten as a late lunch - perhaps from 2 to 5 pm. the rest of the day is spent watching football games on TV, sleeping off the dinner and wine and reconciling with - or removing from your Chirstmas list - the ghastly relatives that you've been having ridiculous arguments with. (If you have no interest in football it is actually a great time to go to the movies - which wil be deserted - thus avoiding the long waiting lines for which NY is famous.)
On Thanksgiving most restaurants either close (maybe 1/3) or have special set Thanksgiving Dinners - which you need to reserve far in advance - and are for specific times - often 2 or 2 1/2 hours apart. The menus are typically limited and the service usually poor - since all the diners come in at once and the staff doesn;t want to be there.
If you want someplace historic you might try Fraunce's Tavern (downtown) - where Washington bid farewell to his troops at the end of the Revolution. A friend went there a couple of yeaars ago and said the food wasn;t too bad - and the traditional setting very appropos (even though about 160 years too late for the actual Pilgrims).

We will also be in NY for Thanksgiving and the parade. We are eating a 2:30 dinner at The View atop the Marriott Marquis. They have a buffet for $83/pp (that includes tax and gratuity). Other places I was considering were The Sea Grill and Fraunce's Tavern. Many of the hotels do offer Thanksgiving dinner. An interesting place for Thanksgiving Dinner for out-of-towners would be Foley's Fish House, which has almost floor to ceiling windows on three sides, all with views of Times Square. It is located in the Renaissance Hotel. We did this with relatives from out of state, and they loved it.
