Well there are alot of hotels in the city so you shouldn't have a problem finding one in your price range. Generally the price for hotels here runs $100 a night and up.
Upscale, check with the Palace, Sheraton, Hilton and Marriott chains.
There are smaller hotels as well, like the Soho Grand just off Canal St in Soho.
Try Priceline.com or a local travel agent.
Good luck and have a great time while you are here.
For "business class or upscale" we're talking AT LEAST $200 and up at this late date, unless you shop like the dickens beginning NOW. For the "best deal", you should have started researching and shopping much earlier. Should you be so inclined and have the time, your best bet is to STUDY biddingfortravel.com and give Priceline a whirl. Unfortunately, you don't have ample time to bid intelligently at this point. The hotels and rates in Times Square and Greenwich (Village), along with "upscale" factor, could not be more disparate. Whatever do you mean by "business class or upscale"? You could also try any number of other online booking options recommended herein. Hotwire, Hoteldiscount, Expedia. Sometimes, there are "best deals" at the last minute, but you must spend considerable time and effort shopping and comparing. I'd guess you had better get busy forthwith. BTW (that's By The Way), you're probably not gonna get the best deal directly with those "chains". They all figure you're desperate and coming anyway and will offer the ridiculous "rack" rates. You'll get way lower rates at the same places through alternative resources. As in, they've already sold of the rooms they figure they won't be booking to Priceline, Hotwire, Expedia, Hoteldiscount, etc. good luck!
