Help finding accomodations in Santa Barbara

Any ideas for accomodations for a family of six in Santa Barbara? We are reserved at the Ramada Inn for $250 ... seems a bit high? We'd even consider an area a little north ... we'll be on our way from LA to Monterey. Any ideas??????????????

SBarbara is the high rent district. Good luck on finding accomadations for 6 for under $250 unless 2 or more sleep on the floor.

How far north or south are you talking? If you can give a mileage range, I could offer suggestions in both directions.

Depending on when you are traveling, you can find some decent prices in the Grover Beach / Pismo Beach area.

You might try Ventura, Ca. It is a little south of Santa Barbara and I am sure it would not be as expensive.

Are you just looking for a one night stopover? Or are you going to stop in the Monterey area also?

Try Lompoc, CA which is about half way up the coast. Not really much to see or do there, but you should be able to get into the Holiday Inn Express, two Queens and a sleeper sofa.

Also Cambria, CA has some less expensive places and it's closer to the ocean than Lompoc.

Lompoc is a lot closer than Cambria. It is probably 30 min. from SB, as is Ventura on the south side.
I second the recommendation on the Pismo area. It will be less than SB. I would not pay $250 for the Ramada.

the best western on Ocean Ave. in Lompoc is a good place, well kept, rooms are in the $80 range. There are also some decent places in Santa Maria, I'd consult a AAA book.
You might also find a reasonably priced, nice motel in Solvang for less than Santa Barbara, and it's a nice place to stop. In my experience, most all the hotels in Solvang are clean and comfortable.

Well, if any of you are checking back ... I could use a bit more advice. =) We're leaving the LA area in the morning, driving to Santa Barbara for the day and staying over on our way up the coast - next stop in the Monterey/Caramel area. So Lompoc looks to be about an hour north and I found a great rate at 145.00 ... I guess since we're traveling North we don't want to back track south for accomodations. I checked a number of places in Cambria which are sold out. So unless I find another option in Santa Barbara an hour north might be worth the $100 savings.
Thoughts? Thanks ... again!

You're coming NOW? LOL!! Try the new Mission Inn in Pismo Beach or the Best Western in Arroyo Grande. There is also a Holiday Inn Express in Pismo Beach at the Oak PArk exit.

There is nothing to do in Lompoc... and it's only an hour north of SB... doesn't get you far enough up the road for your short time frame. Pismo Beach and San Luis Obispo both have some great restaurants and a lot more choices for hotels.

There is also a newer Hampton Inn in Paso Robles that would be a nice place to stop.

Good LUck!

Good luck!

Try the Ramada Inn off of Turnpike and/or the South Coast in in Goleta ... they're only about 15 mins away from downtown SB and are probably more reasonable than downtown.

There are lots and lots and lots of motels on Upper State Street (a couple of miles from the beach) that might be pretty reasonable too.
