HELP: Driving From San Fran To LA!!
I would appreciate any input. I am driving from San Fran to LA on the Coastal Highway. We have to be in La fairly quickly so we may only stay over one nite on the road (ie. a 2-day drive). What is a good half-way point to stop and actually how long a drive is it between the two cities?
Any recommendations on must-see sites and nice hotels would be appreciated.
Thanks!!!!!!!

You can plan for 10 - 11 driving hours if you stay to the Coast, and drive non-stop. The Monterey Peninsula is 2 and 1/2 hours south of S.F. After that the next opportunity would be in San Luis Obisbo. Thereafter comes Santa Barbara. Take some time to explore Carmel and visit the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Plan to lunch at Big Sur. If possible, take a short hour hike at Pt. Lobos jsut 1 mile S. of Carmel. Enjoy the experience.

I agree with Dave. It's too bad you have to get there so quickly, but if you're staying over only one night, I would make it Carmel or Monterrey. Carmel is very charming, you could possibly find a B&B to stay at. Might want to check out Clint Eastwood's Hog's Breath Inn for lunch or dinner. Also, you can take the 17-mile drive around the Monterrey Peninsula and the Pebble Beach Golf Club. Take some time just to walk around the grounds.

Hello
I have just returned from the States. We drove from Los Angeles to San Francisco along the coastal strip. We stopped at Cambria as a half way point and stayed at the Cambria Pines Hotel which was very nice. There is some beautiful scenery around the area and the sunset across the nearby mountains is memorable. I would love to stay there again but for more time next visit.
