We have just returned from Chicago after a 10 day stay. We rented an apartment through Stan Properties: 400 E South Water #3912 Though sparsely and somewhat shabbily furnished, the layout of the apartment met our needs. The selling point of this apartment is the great view (floor to ceiling corner windows with Chicago River to the northwest and the lake to the southeast from the 39th floor). The central location was perfect for us. We were, however, dismayed to find the apartment in much need of a good scrubbing. We don’t know how frequently Stan Properties inspect the vacation rentals, but it was at once apparent that the apartment had only the most cursory cleaning done before our arrival: Soap scum around the bathtub; dirty rug in the bathroom; extra blanket needed washing; kitchen stove top had not been cleaned since last use; vacuuming and dusting done in only the obvious places; carpet badly stained. In addition, the TV didn't work. This apartment cost us $189 + tax/night so, all considered, was a deal. We would recommend this apartment again, but would first have a conversation with an agent to be assured that this lack of cleanliness wouldn't happen again--we get a little squeamish when confronted with this type of unsanitary conditions.

I guess it's nice of you to tell us, but have you told Stan Properties?
Yes, we emailed them on Monday with specifics, but have had no reply. As is the case with most of these agencies, the contract is pretty intimidating regarding the condition of the apartment upon departure (heavy fines if the conditions are not followed to the T) so we are always careful to leave a vacation rental at least as clean as we found it which we did in this case. We have taken advantage of vacation rentals all over the US, Mexico & a couple of times in France--never had this problem before. Also note that you will need to purchase T-paper, bar soap and paper towels for the kitchen. No kitchen linens are provided, not even a dish towel. No bath mat is provided. I will note that the bed is very comfortable so that is a big plus.
Wow, at $189 a night, I would think a long-term stay suite at a hotel might have been a better deal, and cleaner.
I hope you're able to work this out.
