Heading to Asheville, NC

My husband and I are headed to Asheville at the end of April. We've heard it is a lovely spot for art galleries, dining and scenery besides having the Biltmore to explore. We also want to check out the Blue Ridge Parkway and other beautiful sites while we're there. We plan to spend 3 or 4 nights.

It sounds like there are many great places to stay so I'm torn. Should we stay on the grounds of the Biltmore or at a more central location downtown. We don't want to spend our time driving any more than necessary. My husband does not like B&B's so that option is off the table. Any recommendations are appreciated. Thanks.

If you choose the Residences @ Biltmore, ask for a quiet room away from the road, and preferably top floor so that you don't get a noisy family above you. Also I've heard they're under new management so check recent reviews. It's an $8 uber ride to downtown if you don't want to hassle with parking downtown which can be a pain sometimes.

The nicer hotels downtown can be pricey, plus parking charges etc, if you don't mind using Uber look at the nearby Country Inns by Carlson, or the Sleep Inn which we found to be more than adequate, nice in fact.

I have stayed at the Inn on Biltmore Estate several times and really love it. They have added a second hotel near the Winery. If you want to visit the house and the grounds I would really consider staying here. I absolutely love it. Have supper one night in the lounge by the fire.
We loved walking down the hill to explore the little "village" from the inn.

We enjoyed our stay at the Doubletree - within easy walking distance (block or two) to Biltmore Village, which has numerous little shops & several restaurants. There's also a shuttle/trolley at the front entrance that you can take. It's a very short drive to Biltmore Estate, downtown and the entrance to Blue Ridge Parkway drive.

Do not miss these if you want to see some of the most beautiful, fine crafts in the world.

I wholeheartedly second Sassafrass' recommendations; we try to visit both of them when we're in Asheville. We like to take a drive on the Parkway with stops at the Folk Art Center and Craggy Gardens.

Oh! You guys are awesome! That is exactly what I wanted to know. I'm excited for the trip and I thank you all for your help. Seeing as how we've never been to the area it is great to have specific recommendations of your favorite places. I'd hate to get home and find out we'd missed out on a terrific spot.

Well then, definitely drop by the Grove Park Inn for a look at one of the grand old hotels, historic and architecturally beautiful and interesting.

I would suggest devoting a day to Biltmore Estate to leisurely enjoy the beautiful gardens, take one of several different tours of the mansion (general, architectural, etc.), enjoy the winery & other grounds. Also a full day to drive on the Parkway (do stop at the Folk Art Center as suggested above as you drive on the Parkway). Biltmore Village was fun to stroll in the early evening, ending with dinner at one of the restaurants there. We also enjoyed visiting small antique & craft shops in the nearby small towns of Hendersonville & Black Mountain.

Thanks so much for all of the ideas. It sounds as if I need to persuade my husband to add another day to our trip. I'll need to start googling all of the above for more info.
