We're looking for a nice resort to rent a couple of cabins this summer. Any suggestions?

I assume you're talking about Wisconsin. But you need to make that clear.
If you don't mind me asking...why Hayward?
I read into your question that this may be a multi couple or multi family situation? Hayward is mostly a fishing destination. If you are not into fishing and perhaps the local tavern scene, there are better locations for a cabin on the lake.
Sure there is the giant musky fishing museum/record place to visit. I suppose there are some souvenier shops but then it's back in the boat.
Don't get me wrong, I love this kind of thing and I am a fisherman but it did not make my wife happy for a week when we did it.
Yes, I meant Wisconsin. We usually go to the Minocqua area but decided on Hayward this year instead. Isn't it also a tourist-y type town?

We used to stay on Middle Eau Claire lake. I haven't been there for 30 years--but it does hold many fond memories. If you are thinking of taking any day trips I think you'll find that many are the same as you'd have done from Minoqua.
My sisters and I are planning a trip up to the Ashland/Hayward/Ironwood area this summer as part of a family history fact finding mission.
Any way--thought you might find this link helpful.

I haven't been to hayward in years, but have you ever thought about going to Eagle River?
It has some cabins on the lakes in the area. There is shopping for your wife. Also, there are some neat festivals held there throughout the year.
I would try contacting the nearest chamber of commerce to get a book of the area.
I think Hayward is a great choice for a summer get away! I believe I've stayed at Nelson Lake Landing. Try www.haywardlakes.com/nllanding.htm. Also I haven't stayed but really enjoy the great food at Famous Daves in Hayward. They have cabins also. Or if you prefer you can find a private home at Property Management. Do a search for it but I believe it's www.PropertyMgmt-Hayward.com Also more information at www.haywardlakes.com That should give you some ideas as well. Good luck, I think it's a beautiful area to enjoy the summer days! Pam
