Hawaii with 20 month old

Am I crazy thinking that my husband and I will have any sort of a life in Kauai if we bring our child who will be 20 months old. Are there any hotels that provide babysitting services? Will he be too young to enjoy it? Help from anyone who has tried this or something similar.

You can have a wonderful Holiday in Hawaii with your 20 month old! My oldest daughter is 5 years old and we have traveled to Asia, Mexico, Canada, Hawaii and many other places. We are going skiing to Aspen, Colorado soon and will be taking my daughter. My 5 year old is well behaved on the airplane and hotels. We choose family restaraunts appropriate for children over the romantic adult settings. Also, we have found that hotels are very welcoming with children. From local motels, Holiday Inns, to the Four Seasons Hotels we have done it all. Do not let people tell you that you can't travel and have fun with children. We have had some incredible family trips. When my daughter was 1 year old we were in Hawaii and her first experience at the ocean was memorable. What a terrific time.
Regarding babysitting. We have brought babysitter's with us on trips and at the more upscale resorts and hotels we have used the babysitting services. Usually, when we use the babysitting services we pick a hotel/resort which offers entertainment such as cocktail lounge, nice dining, etc. That way we don't need to leave the premises where the babysitter and children are.

Go and have fun.

Actually, most hotels require the sitters to be bonded and insured. The hotel has too much on the line not to do this.

I'm in agreement with above, wait until your child is older.

I agree with xxx. Most 20 month olds do not like their routine upset. It makes for one cranky baby. Why foist a cranky kid on others who want to enjoy their vacation. If you want to get away leave the kid with Grandma.

Having a kid changes your life COMPLETELY. Your life will never be the same as before kids. You should have thought of that before you got pregnant.

Juli,

You must be new to this forum or you'd know there is a serious anti kid faction scouring the posts looking for opportunities to spew their venom.

They are mostly teeing off on your question about whether or not your toddler will enjoy the trip. He won't remember it. Kids that age thrive on their parents and their routines but that's not necessarily a reason to put off the trip. Lower your expectations about adult relaxation and alone time even if the hotel has babysitters you're comfortable leaving your child with.

Go. Have fun.
