Hawaii Trip Report, Maui, Big Island & Oahu --Part I

We spent almost 2 weeks on these 3 islands from late January to early Feb. I thought I would just report on where we stayed and ate, main activities so that if anyone has questions, I can answer them. Stayed at the Plantation Inn in Lahaina, ate at Gerard's, Pacific'o, Lahaina Coolers & Lahaina Fish Co. Drove the north coast past Kapalua and to Hana and around the bottom of the island. Went whale watching with Pacific Whale Foundation.

Hi Ruth, can you please tell me more about the Plantation Inn, pros and cons? I understand it isn't on the ocean but looks so charming. How are the rooms? Also, info on your meal at Gerard's would be great. Thanks!

Please tell us more about where you ate. Mostly interested in the hotel buffets and prices. We are on a budget so looking for the all you can eat buffets mostly.

Thanks, Renae

Sorry I didn't see your questions earlier. The Plantation Inn was wonderful--I posted more information on our stay there in the Rants & Raves section. One of the nice things about the place that isn't apparent from its website or brochure is that they have "extras" such as an ironing board, beach mats, coolers, a tape for the drive to Hana. I can't remember the details of our meals at Gerard's except that the food was excellent. So was Pacific'o, but a different atmosphere--bigger and more bustling. We really like Lahaina Coolers for the value and selection for the price. Not cheap but certainly less expensive than the other two and a nice variety of dishes to choose from. Ren, sorry I can't help you on buffets as we didn't do any of those.
