Hawaii Entertainment Book
If planning a trip for feb 2006, how would an entertainment book best help... if we book our package now, would we need the 2005 book to save on the hotel, and then have to buy the 2006 for the coupons to have while were actually there. And does the entertainment card provide any discount on airfare or cruise?

You can buy a book from your area and use the airline, rental car and hotel tix from that one (and have a year to use the other local coupons) and buy one for HI when the trip nears. Check Ebay. Theres one for sale on there now.

You should purchase the 2006 book when it becomes available at the end of 2005. If the hotel you are interested in participates in the entertainment discount, they will tell you if the discounted rate is available at the time of your reservation. There are limited rooms available at these rates, so I recommend reserving now if you have your dates set. You will probably need to present your entertainment card at check-in. The "fine dining" establishments will also require you to present your valid card for the discount. There are not coupons for the hotels, just for entertainment, activities and restaurants. I don't recall seeing any airfare discounts. There were some cruise coupons, maybe Carnival...I don't remember for sure. There are car rental coupons and discounts that may help you also. If you go on to their website, entertainment.com, you can search what vendors provide discounts by book location.
As woodrob12 states, you could always purchase your local book to see the "standard" national travel discounts that seem to be offered in all the books. The books are now only $9.99 at the website, plus shipping.

Yesterday, on the back of my Safeway receipt, there was a special offer for a free HI 2005 book now when you pre-order the 2006 HI book. I set the receipt on my kitchen counter and, unless DH felt really domestic today and cleaned the kitchen (which is highly unlikely), I'll check it when I get home a in few hours and post the details of the offer.

I don't think there is any reason to get the 05 book, since all the coupons will be expired when you leave next year. You don't need the 05 book to make reservations for 06, you won't need to produce your card until you arrive in Hawaii.

The free 2005 when you reserve your 2006 book may not be of any uise to the orignal poster, but it might be of interest to others. The offer I have is for the Hawai`i book, but a quick change of zip code at the website allows you to buy the book of your choice. The offer is found at entertainment.com/grocery. Since you can still get a good 5 months use out of the 2005 book, it sounds like a good deal to me! I never have to buy my books though, because when people come to visit me they always leave their unused books at my house. hehe
