We made our reservations at the Palazzo in Las Vegas for June. Now I keep seeing reviews that the rooms are dirty and the staff is rude. Has this hotel gone down hill.
Any suggestions for a better choice?

We were there in November and although it was not the greatest hotel, I think it is pretty dull actually, the room was clean and very nice. I can't comment on the staff as we don't talk to them if we can help it. It's all about the newest joint in town in Vegas so check out the rates on Vdara, they are very good and reviews seem positive.

Vdara looks beautiful and it's pretty well located, next to Bellagio, if you want to be on the strip. There's a tram that runs between City Center and Bellagio. I'll bet the rates are good. I'm not familiar at all with the Pallazo, so can't speak to that.

Also, I didn't see any of the rooms at Vdara but the lobby and other areas are gorgous, but very understated, not the usual Vegas "bling".

I ate lunch in one of the restaurants and had a delicious steak sandwich. It was 19.00, average for Las Vegas, but it was so tender I'm thinking it must have been filet mignon. The restaurant was quite noisy however, lots of hardscape and high ceilings, as seems to be the fad these days, so not my favorite because of that.

I don't think the Palazzo has gone downhill and it's still one of the newest hotels in LV. And the Vdara gets worse reviews on TA than the Palazzo, if that matters to you.

Every hotel gets bad reviews, so you have to look at the overall rating of the hotel to compare them. Based on the TA reviews, the Palazzo is ranked 12 out of 288 hotels in LV, while Vdara is ranked 47. If the Palazzo's reviews aren't good enough for you, check out the Four Seasons or the Mandarin Oriental which get better reviews on service.

Can't comment on the rooms, but we have dealt with staff at a couple of the restaurants and been very happy. The casino, eatng places and general appearance are clean and nice.

My objection to Palazzo is that awful fragrance they pump throughout that makes you want to leave quickly.

Any large hotel "refreshes" their rooms on a rotating basis. But, if they're not full, you can request (and receive) a "newer" room. Sometimes, there's a member of the housekeeping staff that's not so great, but that's attended to quickly, and a phone call usually results in taking care of that, too. I doubt overall housekeeping has slipped, as with more and newer hotels, all really have to keep up to speed on that.

If you're looking at Trip Advisor reviews, well, if there is the occasional rant among cheers and raves...

We stayed in a suite at the Palazzo several months ago. The suite was enormous and very attractive but I still have a couple of complaints. The mini-bar had one of those sensors on it, so we couldn't use it for cooling other drinks, the ice chest was SO tiny that I couldn't put a small bottle of wine in it, and alas - the thing that really bugs me about Las Vegas - no coffee pot.

I don't remember a fragrance at all, but anything that would've kept the smoking odor at bay would've worked for me. The hotel personnel all seemed friendly.

The floral smell is much more noticeable in the Venetian imho. I didn't really notice it in the Palazzo at all. But the whole V/P property does a good job of diffusing the smoke, unlike the older casinos.

Lots of casinos use a fragrance in the ventilation system (I'm sure they have fragrance experts who choose them based on how much people spend when they smell them), but the Venetian is more noticeable than most, although I don't mind it. (I hate the Flamingo one.)

The coffee pot and mini bar issue is pretty common in LV hotels ime.
