Have you been to Canaan Valley, WV?

Has anyone ever been to Canaan Valley, WV? I hear its a big ski place, but what's it like in the summer? Looking for a nice relaxing place to go in the summer that is not to far from Washington, DC.

Hi

I have been to Cannan Valley a few times during the summer for day trips. Do not know all of the activities that they have during the summer, but they do have some wonderful hiking trails and deer that will come right up to you. Have to drive very carefully through the area as the deer are everywhere. A wonderful area.

I have been to Canaan Valley many times. It is quiet and beautiful. There are lots of hiking trails as well as other things to do.

Dolly Sods Wilderness Area is about 30 minutes from Canaan and is a windswept high area with beautiful views - I understand the vegatation is similar to what you would find in more northern areas. You can rent canoes and duckies through Blackwater Outdoor Center. There is horseback riding at Blackwater Falls State Park which is ten minutes from Canaan. There is a nice golf course at the state park. Wildlife is everywhere. You can rent cabins at Canaan Valley State Park. Also a number of condominiums in the area that are really nice. We stay at Deerfield Village - there are tennis courts, pool, sand volleyball and bicyling.

There are several shops in Davis and Thomas - one nice art and craft gallery of WV artists. Siriannis has good pizza. Email me for more info.
