Has anyone tried this new restaurant in Kauai?

I was just reading the newest edition of Kauai Revealed and noticed that the authors have opened their own restaurant in Kauai called Scotty's Beachside BBQ. Has anyone eaten there who can let us know how it is???

Great views -- not a bad seat in the house. As for its BBQ -- it was just OK in my opinion. We ordered the BBQ sandwich and it was dry.

Of course, I judge by BBQ by Memphis standards.

We ate there and it was good. But, in no way does it come close to Memphis BBQ or NC BBQ or the real icee's BBQ. But if you don't know any better, you will think it is ono.

As for their ribs, ask AuntieMaria..I think she and her DH are their "best" customers.

Also, Ashley, we ate at Olympic Cafe in Kapaa and liked it a great deal..AuntieM, did you ever go and try their fish tacos?

"new"?

I got the mixed plate of brisket and pulled pork and thought it was pretty good...left my darn doggie box because I couldn't finish it....
but my tastebuds haven't been tainted by Memphis Q, or Mr I'2s Q.

I'd go back. In fact in 182 mo' days......

B'man,
I miss a TR?? Been busy of late.

I'2, Someone was talking about carnitas the other day...I immediately flashed to a Oly Cafe's carnitas and eggs b'fast.
yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Re: Scotty's BBQ -- they really do smoke their meats, and instead of burying them in sauce, everything's served "dry" so you can choose and add any of their 3 specialty sauces. Love, love, love their babyback ribs (available only after 4pm).

Re: Olympic Cafe -- great choice for any casual breakfast, lunch or dinner. Be sure to bring a big appetite! Haven't tried those fish tacos yet...mebbe this holiday weekend!

Kapaa...it looks like a house from the road, so you have to see the sign!

dolciani:

It's at the north end of Kapa`a. Watch for the large parking lot for Kojima's Market on the mauka (inland) side of the road -- Scotty's BBQ is right across the street. The restaurant is on the 2nd floor of a 2-story building, set well back from the road (and yes, it _does_ look like a nice oceanfront house). Elevator & stairs for access.

One feature that causes first-time visitors to go slack-jaw, are the rollup garage doors (and screens) on the makai (ocean) side of the building. Clever...

And...they've just put up a big banner, trumpeting their new "All You Can Eat Sunday" policy. Egad...their regular portions usually require a "doggie bag"!

As mentioned, even I couldn't finish my combo plate.

What really torqued me off about leaving my doggie box of brisket at Scotty's with his spicey BBQ sauce is that I had a fresh loaf of 7 grain bread from Full Moon Rising Bakery back at the room for a "post Sand Bar snack".

And another thing Ashley...Kal just mentioned the bakery, we got some great bread there also....you have to holler for service!

But what I wanted to tell you is that right behind and kinda to the side of the bakery are new really clean public restrooms. You always need that kind of info for the girls!

Bill, you know that building in Kapaa that was vacant for a while...Well, it's green and it's behind a sandwich place or another bakery or something...across the street from Olympic Cafe and that group of shops, isn't it Kal?

One morning they had tomato foccacia (sic)bread that looked so wonderful. Of course, I was going to get it later..I was on my way somewhere and they were already sold out. I think we also got some whole grain sourdough!

The things I do for you...giving you all the secret places!! Hey, that one guy that posted that didn't like Kauai...hot diggity! And my friend that just got home from Hawaii ..well, they did a day trip to Kauai and it rained all day and their helicopter tour was cancelled and the Canyon was clouded over..........so she wasn't impressed...another one down! Am I doing ok for you Kal?

i2,
You're a wonderful person!

People think we are joking when we mention the lousy weather and the plethora of other ills that Kaua`i is inflicted with, but we're not! Check out Perlitana's report and now your friend's story.

26 more!

According to the newest Kauai edition of the blue book, they are partners in Scotty's. Scotty runs the place and they continue to write guidebooks. It's good percy, you will like it.
