Has anyone taken the Big Island Helicopter ride within the past month? Advice needed.
We are off to the Big Island next month and are considering taking the helicopter to view the volcanic activity at Kilauea.
Question: If you've done this within the last month, what type of volcanic activity did you see?
Our dilemma is that we visit Hawaii frequently and we can easily put off the splurge of the helicopter for another time...UNLESS the activity is something worth seeing right now. We've been perusing the NPS Kilauea activity site weekly, it's hard to gauge if it's worth the splurge...this time around.
Aloha.

Call the tour company and ask them directly "what was the level of activity yesterday and the day before." They will tell you. Remember, in nature there are no guarantees.
We flew with Blue Hawaiian and loved them and the trip.
Since you are there often, if it isn't what you want - wait.

You can look at the Kilauea volcano website for daily postings and images of the activity. It hasn't looked like the eruption of Mount Vesuvius for about 30 years, and the current activity is very low-key and at a snail's pace. However, seeing the entire area and how it has changed, flow after flow, is very impressive.

Oh, I see you visit that website, too.
I think DebitNM has good advise. If you are going to be visiting TBI multiple times, you have the option of being choosy about your trip.
I would wait, and hope that it might flow back into the ocean again. That was very impressive and eerie.
